Even though the name is Crepe O Chocolat, I find the sandwiches to be the real standout. Long and thin, I find to be perfectly filling. The bread is crispy and has interesting stuff it (olives, etc). I like the French style filling - just a couple of good ingredients. For $5 I dare you to find a better sandwich deal anywhere else in the city.
The crepes are okay, nothing that great that you can't reproduce at home if you know how.
One of my most favorite places for food on earth.
How such a little hole-in-the-wall crammed on a side street near Union Square, completely overshadowed by big department stores and hidden in shadow most of the time have some of the simplest and best food is beyond me.
Divine fare, we're talking about fresh egg and avocado sandwiches on pan-fried brioche, savory crepes stuffed with chunky ratatouille to sweet crepes dusted with sugar and drizzled with fresh lemon, delicate little truffles and bite-size candies.... Martha Stewart could go $#!^ herself because this one-woman show takes the cake.
Even more, their hearty vegetable soups with sweet potato, carrots, and crisp green beans are so comforting in the windy chill of winter; and for the thirsty, the fresh and homemade acai, mango, or guava lemonade is a must. ALL FRESH, ALL HOMEMADE. Go eat your heart out and love every minute of it.
And even better, they take credit card now too! (Minimum purchase somewhere around $5-$10 I believe...)

The kombucha, the yogurt, the panini!
Everything is home made!
Every time I come here, I am amazed.
The friendly woman that owns and operates this petite place is always so kind and truly cares about the quality of her food.
The seasonally changing menu reminds me of being at a bistro in France. Its a great place to walk to from work or even shopping on the weekends.
Highly recommended to all.

Pint-sized cafe in the FiDi that serves up crepes, home-squeezed juices, teas, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh fruit and yogurt, etc. They have some tempting-looking candies but I wasn't about to dish out $2 just for one piece.
I ordered a nutella crepe for around ~$6. It was tasty enough but nothing extraordinary. It's a decent place to grab breakfast or lunch if you're in the area though.

I guess I'll be Sylvie's 100th review on Yelp! I'd been meaning to try Crepe O Chocolat for the longest time- I've passed by this little gem every time I visit my dentist, but regrettably have never been in, for the simple reason that my teeth were hurting after the cleaning administered by said dentist and really, there's no appetite for anything when all you can taste is fluoride and mint-flavored toothpaste.
So when the opportunity presented itself on a day when I wasn't visiting the tooth doctor, I grabbed the chance to go see for myself whether the crepes were all that. Of course, once entering the premises and perusing the menu, I decide not on a crepe, but an omelet- the house special one with prosciutto, caramelized apples, and Gruyere cheese. The price may be a tad step, but consider that you get a monstrously huge omelet filled to the brim with cheese, apples, and prosciutto, as well as a tasty side salad with beets, radishes, and avocado. The salty/sweet combination was fabulous and made for a great lunch.
The only reason I'm knocking off a star is because the omelet was not so much an omelet in the traditional sense (I was expecting a lot more egg and perhaps not so much filling) as it was essentially a crepe where the crepe batter had been replaced with two eggs, thin and thoroughly fried. I probably should have ordered the crepe version, but I was craving eggs. Not that the omelet wasn't good- in fact, it was an excellent meal- it just didn't fulfill my omelet cravings.
4 stars for now, but I have a feeling I'll be bumping this up to a 5 once I get a taste of the crepes, as well as try out some of her sandwiches. I will most definitely be back, though probably not at the peak lunch period since the tiny place can get pretty packed.

I love this place!!!! I come here for lunch at least once a week. Everything here is very fresh and I love the European feel. Unfortunately it is very small so if fills up and feels cramped quickly. The little sandwiches are amazing, so are the salads. I have not tried the omelets yet but they look delicious. Yes, it is a little pricey but since all of the ingredients are so good that's not surprising. Compared to all of the other chains restaurants which dominate this area it isn't any more expensive and far better due to the quality and the ambiance.

There are many notable vegan options on the menu such as vegan oatmeal cakes, farro stuffed squash, quinoa stuffed portabello mushroom and soy oatmeal. Kudos!
The only thing that I can vouch for (and love) is the goat cheese and fig on a thin olive (?) baguette. I've also had the goat cheese and apricot baguette, but the fig one is by far the best. I get it heated up and I'm good to go.
This is a cute little place (and i mean little), but the crepes here are pretty decent. they are pricy, ranging form about 4.45- 8.50 i believe, but they were pretty good. the service was good, and they gave us water in a way that you don't see many places anymore. but overall experience was pretty good.
I can't believe I just found out about this place; someone in my yoga class mentioned how great it was. It's on O'Farrell by Barneys @ the corner of Stockton. RIght smack dab in Union Square. So, I stopped in today after working out at the Sports Club/LA. It's a small and casual place w/ a table inside for communal seating as well as a few tables outside. The menu included a lot of healthy and vegan options and there were some tantalizing sweets in the glass case. I had the Omelette with Brandy Chicken; it was absolutely delicious. It came with a side salad that was equally scrumptious. It was quite big, so I took half of it home for me and had it for dinner. If you're in Union Square, you must check this place out!
Slight update: Had a different experience there today - a different person was working there. Only 2 people in the cafe and 1 in front, and the woman was very flustered and complaining out loud because I guess the crepe machine wasn't' working. I had brought 2 out of town friends with me after raving about this place being so great, and I was kind of embarrassed because she did not apologize or say, "Sorry, I'll be with you in a minute." after we stood there waiting for 10 minutes. We didn't end up getting food there because she basically said she couldn't prepare/cook any food due to her difficulty with the cook top. I was bummed because I really wanted to eat there with my friends. So, down to 4 stars.... hope next time is better.

A foodie girlfriend of mine from OC used to come to SF a lot for various work conferences. When she learned we were moving to the Bay Area, in true foodie form, she provided me with some of her favorite restaurants.
Most of the places on her list had the actual restaurant name except for the the elusive Crepe o Chocolat. She had listed it as ' fantastic creperie near Union Square.' I can't tell you how many afternoons I had a Nutella crepe craving and looked for this place, all the while cursing my friend for not providing me with even a street name to work with.
On Sunday morning, with my friend in tow, we set out to find this crepe place that she has been telling me about. We wandered up the streets that surround Union Square. We found a storefront that may have been the crepe place at one time, but is now the future site of a Diesel store.
About to give up, my friend whipped out her Blackberry (something we should have done from the beginning!) and located the address. Our group trudged over to O'Farrell and I immediately understood how this small place could be easily overlooked. It stands in the shadows of the largely obnoxious Macy's men's store and is a tiny storefront in a sea of big box retail stores.
There are tons of crepes to choose from on the menu. Plus a variety of sandwiches and fresh squeezed juices. The juice selection alone was impressive.
I had the Nutella and raspberry crepe and a tall cup of guava lemonade and it really satiated my crepe craving. There was a perfect amount of Nutella and the hint of raspberry was the perfect combination. The guava lemonade was just the right balance of tangy lemon flavor and sweet guava. It was truly refreshing after the sweetness of the crepe (and a night of over imbibing).
After devouring my crepe, I decided I was still hungry and ordered a fig, goat cheese and green bean sandwich served on crusty, multi grain bread. Of course I wasn't still hungry, so it came home with me to the East Bay and was amazingly good reheated the next day.
This is definitely going to turn into my go-to place when I'm having a Nutella craving or am in need of a some fresh squeezed juice.

The crepes are soo good! Small little place! The sandwiches looked good! They were very nice and sweet...too bad they ran out of bananas! The crepe was great though! I would eat here again!
My boyfriend and I were visiting San Francisco and staying in the Union Square area, when we stumbled upon this place. I have to say, everything in here looked delicious! However, I have only tried their coffee (real French press-so good) and their caramelized coconut (it comes as a small ball of coconut with delicious caramel throughout).
I noticed that some of their prices were a little high. That might just be because they're using top-notch ingredients. Nevertheless, I couldn't bring myself to shell out 9 bucks for a crepe.
I was a repeat customer during the 4 days I was in town--I highly recommend it.

Beware of Saturday mornings and the incorrect hours posted here; my compatriots and I were out looking for breakfast near the Metreon and based on the amazing reviewers at Yelp, decided to give Crepe O Chocolat a try. Alas, it was 8:30am and the cafe, as informed by the owner, opened at 9am. Sad!
We trucked off to Peet's and saw our movie. Come 1pm, we were bored and hungry again, and realized that our meeting with Cocoa O Chocolat wasn't cancelled, it was merely delayed.
We arrived again and ordered two veggie omelettes as well as a gruyere and ham sandwich - all delicious. The omelettes are huge; not share-with-your-friend-huge but pleasantly fill-your-belly huge. Also, through the recommendation of Yelp again, I got the guava lemonade with was pleasant and fresh. One of my friends got the mint lemonade, and she remarked that it tasted like a Christmas tree... but in a good way.
But we couldn't leave without getting a crepe, now could we? After flipping a coin we decided on sharing a raspberry-Nutella crepe that was delicious, piping hot, and tasted like cranberries. Oh, wait, those WERE cranberries! A little screw up, and I thought on letting the worker know that what she thought was raspberries were actually cranberries, but my compatriots recommend I let her figure it out on her own. Regardless, the crepe was tasty, and a really nice end to a breakfast-now-lunch trip.

Blink and you'll miss this place. Luckily, my friends are regulars there so they always grab me if I walk by.
The food is delicious and you get a lot of it. My absolute favorite thing there is the rose flavored yogurt with fresh blueberries and their homemade granola. And I generally hate granola.
Interesting and yummy sandwiches and salads. I haven't had a crepe there yet since all the displayed items tend to catch my eye first. I was surprised at the amount of vegan friendly food (I'm not even vegetarian and I liked it).
The owner is awesome though sometimes the people she's hired aren't such great customer service people.
She definitely takes pride in providing yummy food made with quality ingredients. The quality of my meals there keeps me from balking at the somewhat higher prices.
I come here whenever I can.
In search of a Saturday brunch in downtown SF?
Good luck.
We made out way here in search of eggs and we found them in this little shop tucked away across from the unglamorous side of Macy's Men Store.
delighted to see eggs on the menu, I gave my boyfriend the order and dove for one of two outside tables. They DO NOW take credit cards so he used that. He used that despite the incompetence and rudeness of the staff.
The tap water you ask for, $1.
The house made guava lemonade gets put in a plastic cup with a top with a straw hole in the middle but "we don't have straws". Um, ok but...
And "we do not stock ketchup"
Well that's all they needed to say to keep us from coming back!
However, when the food finally, and I do mean, finally, came out the presentation was glorious. The portion was grand, the omelette looked like a crepe itself and thrown on top was a delightful salad.
Now, my salad was replete with beets. The boyfriend who ordered the exact same thing had a nearly beet free salad but chock full of chopped avocados. Both salads were drenched with whatever tasty dressing they used and ample in their hearts of palm. Despite this odd incongruence, both omelette orders were the same, rich in vegetables and full of a savory taste in a golden egg fried to perfection.
Were they competent or interested in making your experience service rich, we have a number of ideas but since it appears they are not, no this is a quick, good stop for food you can't find elsewhere in this hood
As far as loving restaurants go, my adoration for Crepe O Chocolat falls into the variety most true.
She is a mix of quiet comfort and exquisite qualities. Homemade sandwiches, salads and soups, as well as breakfast items from omelettes to infused yogurts. Sitting on the singular circular table, one can't help but spark a conversation with others, a mix between locals in-the-know and fortunate tourists. And for a few moments in my day, I forgot where I was, transported to a place more pretty and soothed. I just met her, but she hasn't left my mind.
A love so strong she distracts me from myself.

Down right rude people working there and the food is just ok while being overpriced. I've tried it many times because I work across the street. I keep hoping it will be better and I end up really disappointed.
The worst part is the people working there make you feel unwelcome. I go out of my way to say hello and thank them over and over again but all I get is snippy comments and they ignore me while they take other customers behind me. They just skip right over me, why would anyone do that? Is it because they know I work nearby? I'm on my break, people! I have stopped going there because of it. I guess they don't need my business (money). I'm not surprised to see others have had the same experience of their rudeness!
Yes, that's right, we have a 5 star situation at hand. True, I have only been here 4 times now but my visits just keep getting better. I admit freely that I am a bit of a francophile, so finding my way to this place has been marvelous since it turns out I can't afford to fly to Paris whenever the hell the mood strikes me. Bummer.
That aside, I must highly recommend the ham and Gruyere sandwich, the mushroom and egg sandwich, the brandy chicken crepe and the lavender chocolate, oh the chocolate. The mint lemonade is also tremendously refreshing. The woman who works there does it all- serves, cooks, smiles and takes my skrilla. Lovely. Allons y!
I had a wonderful experience=) My friend Wako-chan told me about Crepe O Chocolat and how they had many healthy dishes even vegan dishes. I always thought it was just dessert. What a wonderful surprise. They have many savory crepes made with buckwheat flour and other lunch menus.
I'm having the chicken, spinach, tomato & cheese crepe. It is soooooooo good. The chicken is moist with lots of fresh veges. I love fresh lunch and feel lucky this place exist.
I've had crepes in France, Italy & Japan. Every crepe restaurant had a different variation of the crepe. I appreciate each of them for what they are. Crepe O Chocolat makes their own crepe as well, and its good.
I cant wait to go back and try the salad of the day, amongst other snacks, soups, and sandwiches.

This place is goooood. No savory crepes, so the name of the place may be deceiving, but the other food is really good. I got a mushroom, egg, and gruyere sandwich, which looked small at first, but was so filling and good. Only $5! I wanted to try a whole bunch of their sides. Vegan muffins, homemade power bars, homemade veggie chips, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, etc. The girl next to me ordered an omelet and WOW. No wonder it's kind of pricey ($10). That thing is HUGE. If you go with someone else, split an omelet and then it's cheap and still fills you up. That's what I'm doing next time for sure.
I would usually give this a 4 star since it's a bit of a trek from my office and I'm not able to come every day, BUT I love that it's a small business with the owner working right there in front of you. In such a big city, you've got to support smaller businesses. Especially when they make good food!

I love this cute, little place. I go to school around the block so I try and eat here because the owner is so nice and the food is so good. The owner told me a few months ago that she always tries to have something vegan on the menu but over the past few months I've noticed that they've added quite a few more options, even desserts! It's the only place in the area besides Jamba Juice where I can get something vegan really quick and get back to class. It's a *bit* expensive, but I feel like I should support the nice independent business.

what a nice surprise. i don't know why i have never eaten here before because i'm always looking for something good to eat in this area. lately i've had to fall back on the food court in the newer sf centre or blondie's and this is SO MUCH BETTER.
the woman who cooks and does everything is friendly and efficient. she had a little line of people waiting today at lunch, but everyone seemed content with their wait. i noticed that the sandwiches come out quick as they are pre-made and thrown on the press.
i ordered a veggie omelette to go that turned out to be huge. there was at least half of an avocado in it along with spinach and mushrooms and gruyere cheese. the side salad had a ton of beets (that i love) and everything was tasty.
now why i didn't get dessert is a mystery to me. if the summer fog keeps up i'll be going for hot chocolate soon.

I've had been to several crepe establishments in SF and by far this has to be the best.
Crepes O Chocolat is in an intimate place and you can definitely miss it if you're not paying attention especially with all the construction going on around the area. Luckily, there's a large red banner with Crepes O Chocolat hanging off one of the scaffolding.
I've always ordered the Veggie galette which consists of avocado, mushroom, spinach, guyere cheese and herbs wrapped in whole wheat. I really need to know what kind of herbs she uses because it is so DAMN good.
I'll miss this place but whenever I'm back in town, I'll definitely make sure to stop by.
Yum, yum, yum, yum... Quinoa, fig, beet salad!!! The quinoa was warm and seasoned perfectly, the figs were ripe and perfect, the greens were fresh and yummy. The long, skinny sandwich was stellar, goat cheese, figs and a jam made of mirabelle plum. I split the salad and sandwich with a friend, and we each had a coconut treat (just coconut, honey and butter I think) and it was $16... I think that was a bargain. Before we left we spend another $20 on various to go items like the honey-rose yogurt, little chocolate souffles a few chocolates, and 2 more sandwiches (for our spouses).
The owner was very sweet and friendly. I think she appreciated our enthusiasm for her food. I can't wait to get back there to try a soup and crepe. YUM!!!
The boyfriend and I stopped in this morning while we were on our way to work. We each ordered a crepe and then proceded to watch in horror as the (slow, slightly rude) woman behind the counter proceded to make them.
what came off the little griddle was a soggy, burnt tasting, flat, nasty thing that apparently passes for a crepe in this place. It stuck to, and then became one with the cardboard to-go container. In retrospect I could have just eaten the to-go container... It would have tasted better than the "crepe"
Oh, and it cost nearly 20 dollars for two crepes! WTF?
I wish they would put a crepes a gogo downtown... it's better, cheaper, and more friendly.

The food is always good. They have all kinds of homemade sweets, but they are overpriced. It's a very small place next to Barney's. I was in there today and they no longer make savory crepes for lunch - so I probably won't be back.
today i walked in for a piece of $2 chocolate. i don't know what came over me. every time i pass this little shop i just cant help but to walk in. i had their crepe o chocolat last week (nutella and crushed nuts) and i fell half-way in love. (did i mention how much i ADORE crepes?!)
I love this place with a passion. 5 out of 5 days of my work week do I crave food from this cute little spot. For awhile there, I was a bit hesitant coming in because it is def different from other places in Union Square. But her food is healthy, delicious, and UNIQUE. I love how passionate she is when you ask her what's the special for the day.
But.. she can get a bit moody at times so know what you want!
Also, her hours are a bit strange, sometimes she's open on Sat & Sun, and sometimes no. Sometimes she closes before 3pm and sometimes no... a bit odd I'd say.
Portions are HUGE, prices a bit steep if you eat out every day, but I always share with a friend and it ends up being about $4-5!!
This cozy creperie specializes in Galletes - Buckwheat Crepes from Brittany that are folded into a square over sweet or savory ingredients. I had the Crepe Complete with ham, egg and gruyere cheese for $6.75. On the specials board they have Croque Monsieur, Couscous w/Veggies & Quiches, all for $5.25. They also have a variety of soups and desserts. My new Favorite!

I like the look and feel of this place
the sandwiches are long and elegant and arranged nicely in the glass cabinet
the chai tea is homemade and there are REAL napkins...this place has a very chic low key vibe
however the crepe i ordered was not as nice
i ordered the classic crepe- gruyere, ham, and eggs.
it was by the far THE WORST crepe i have EVER eaten. the crepe place in the westfield is 100 times better!
the crepe was BURNED and all of the contents inside of the crepe were stringy and chewy. i barely ate half.
waste of 10 bucks
Well after tooling around the area in search of a Mod looking outfit for a friend, hunger struck us while standing in front of Ben Sherman and we decided to give this place a go.
I ordered the Brandy Chicken crepe and in all honesty, I thought the chicken was far too dry for my taste. I did however like the gruyere and the tomatoes and the spinach they paired with it. Weird thing about the chicken is it's just a big ol' lump of chicken in the middle of this buckwheat crepe, instead of being chopped up a bit more and then spread out amongst the other ingredients. Perhaps they should call this dish the Chicken In A Blanket or something.
I also ordered the lemon mint drink and after being sick for what seems like about 14 years now, I just couldn't get into the taste of this because it reminded me of a Ricola cough drop. Not exactly, the taste you crave along with dry chicken.
Will I come back, probably not, but at least I am now not starving, so the place did its job.

All I have to say about this place is that the lady who runs it needs to learn some manners and improve her menu at the same time. I was so pissed off that I spent $7 on what was essentially organic bread and cheese with a charred piece of eggplant. BOOOOO to this place. She may be able to fool the tourists into thinking this is a great place, but I know better! BOOOOOO...

Every single time I stop by Union Square I not only eat here but always take something to go for later. This is an indepedent owner-run cafe that's amazing in everything from the ingredients used to the daily changing menu. The last time I was there, Sylvie treated my friend and I to green tea and wasabi chocolates. Every trip has been an adventure. I get goose bumps just thinking about it. Oh and great coffee too.
I laugh when people walk in...look around...and leave without ordering. Poor lost souls..go back to cheesecake factory and boudin's!...FOOLS! This is the best thing to ever grace the cookie cutter shops/eateries in Union Square.

There are very few but powerful roadblocks that keep me from going completely vegan.
The mushroom-gruyere omelette sandwich at Crepe O Chocolat is one of them.
Seriously, this skinny little sandwich is ADDICTING. Sylvie makes it just right with wine-spiked sauteed mushrooms, grilled cheese and just the right thickness of egg to make the omelette a crepe-like consistency. If this restaurant were rated on the sandwich itself, I'd give it 10 Stars!!!!
However, I'm reviewing the whole restaurant, not just the sandwich. The rest of the stuff Sylvie makes is pretty good, just not nearly as good as that damn sammich. The croissants are not bad, but I personally prefer the ones they make at Boudin's down the street... better almond filling. The crepes are pretty good as well although I've had better elsewhere. And the juice is very good (freshly made!)
Price... @ $5 for that sandwich, it's definitely more than I'd pay elsewhere for such a simple food item, which should be further evidence of just how good it is considering my cheap Asian heritage. Crepes are around $8, which is what you'd pay for most other meals around Union Square. In my book, however, it's still a light meal, so if you're really hungry, it might be better to go elsewhere (i.e. King of Thai noodle, Macy*s Cellar, etc)
Ambience... it's a hole in the wall, but dammit if it's not the cutest hole in the wall ever.
Parking... well, let's see... Union Square = tons of pedestrians, including lost tourists and old Chinese grandmas that jaywalk anywhere they can, combined with tourbusses... probably a good idea to take the bus.

Every time an out of town friend comes by and wants a crepe, this is the first place I take them. And I've managed to convert them all.
Great food, something for everyone. Even my vegetarian friends dig it. Pastries, soups and sandwiches made fresh every day, so even if you're not a crepe person, you'll find something delicious to eat.
I've been coming here almost literally since it opened because I know every time I go, the food will be consistent and the quality of service will be sweet. It's been a few years and the woman who runs the place really has only hired maybe one or two people to help her since. Otherwise, she makes all the food herself.
Prices can be steep if you eat here every day. There's outdoor seating for good days and smokers. You pay after you eat which is old fashioned I think. A bit small on the inside but if there's no seating, simply get it to go and eat at Union Square.
Don't miss the lemonade chai on a nice hot day.

This was one of my local favorite lunch places when I worked at Macy's in Union Square. Sadly, I discovered it a month before I was to leave.
Slyvia prepares everything (sometimes with another person in back) beautifully and uses all natural ingredients (that includes sugar too!) for her creations. Everything here is good, especially the crepes and salads. She always has some fresh squeezed lemonade that is awesome as well.
Her creations are a little on the expensive side for everyday indulgence, especially for my small paycheck.

Sylvie is so sweet and creates the menu herself. She is always mixing things up so it's a fun place to try out. I've been twice and loved it both times. Once for lunch and once just to stop in for a treat after spending the day in Chinatown. I had a strawberry/banana crepe this last time and it was divine. The only downside is that I think it's a tad bit expensive... but that's to be expected given the location. The food is definitely quality.
