They've got al pastor, they've got al pastor! and they'll make you any dish with it, not just tacos =) I got the super burrito al pastor. It came in a red basket, on a piece of white paper, completely wrapped in foil. It was like a burrito fruit, I had to carefully peel off the foil to get to the good stuff. And good it was! I ate half of it there, for dinner, and I will have the rest for lunch tomorrow. Their beer is at happy hour prices all the time ($3.25) and they have yummy fresh strawberry juice if you prefer to go the non-alcoholic route.

Wow. This burrito may have been the best burrito I have ever had, and I only ate half of it! We got the super chorizo burrito. I am going to be thinking about that burrito for a long time...or at least until I go back here for another one. *drools*
The super burrito was massive, and I had trouble finishing mine. I had mine with black beans and carnitas. The burrito was stuffed solid with mostly rice, beans and sour cream. I would have preferred to see more meat and more avocado. The salsa was barely noticeable too. All in all it tasted good, and it filled me up for the rest of my work day.
A basket of chips is 50 cents, but you're welcome to help yourself to as much salsa as you'd like. I liked the tomatillo salsa best because it was icy cold and had just a slight kick to it. Fast, friendly service too. There was a long line of patrons, but I got my burrito in just a few minutes. The colorful overhead menu board looked kind of new with good descriptions of everything and nice pictures.

Let's set the scene: It's 1am on a ______ morning, you've just been out ________, and clearly you need some grub to round out the night. You value proximity to public transportation, good food, and generous helpings. Where do you go? Farolito Taqueria.
Funny, I've found myself in the above scenario twice this past week. The food here is pretty good, and should be able to satisfy most any appetite taqueria-style.
This place won't win the sterility award anytime soon, but it's not that bad. There are a bunch of tables, and the service is pretty quick.

I hosted a blind "best of SF Burrito" off at my place the other night and Farolito came out on top, besting such favorites as La Taqueria, Tonayense, Papalote and four other local luminaries. I'm embarassed to say that after 9 years here in SF, one of which i lived only four blocks away, I'd never been here. Silly me. Te adoro, Farolito.

Okay,
Quesedilla super Suiza. 3 words, Two pieces, 1 emotion. FUCK YES TO THE PERSON WHO CREATED THIS. Be still my heart of yummy mexican food.
Ok...its 2 am in the morning...me and the girls are getting out from hanging out and enjoying ourselves...where do we go to satisfy a little hunger in the wee hours of the morning...and since I am the kind of girl who LOVES to go out and drink and come home alone...yes alone...me and Farolito are in love ...so I don't need anyone else..all I need is a Quesedilla ....SUIZA...and I am satisfied....hahahahaha
I am serious though...I hate fast food..and if I have to settle for a wee hour meal...this is the place....try it ..you wont be disappointed...
I wasn't even that hungry, and I just about polished off their gigantic but scrumptious Super Quesadilla Suiza with carnitas. The meat was the softest and juiciest that meat could ever get. MMMM!!! and tasted sooo goood! droooool...sauce was dripping everywhere, but I didn't care, just kept on packing it away in the middle of the night. And whatever cheese they put in there was super yummy too! Mm...keep dreaming about it..too bad it's kinda far away..
When Farolito says "Super Burrito," they mean gigantic-mouthwatering-bundle-of-joy. The chicken was tender without a hint of gristle, the avocado was in large pieces (!) and the salsa poblano made a delicious dipping sauce. They charge $0.50 cents for chips which is a bummer, but it's almost advisable not to get the chips if you're getting the super burrito. It's elephantine and the best burrito I've ever eaten.
So fresh and (not) so clean clean! I mean, it's not dirty but it's not, you know, anywhere near sterile.
This was very delicious. I don't even care that it probably made me sick. The chicken on my tostada was plump and juicy, the avocado was sliced liberally and I love the salsa and green sauce that you can ladle out yourself.
There is high customer traffic, so you know the ingredients really are fresh, as I stated in the first line. The crowd is very mixed when it comes to backgrounds, ages, etc., but when they call your number, they always say it in Spanish first. I like that.
The line was sort of long the prices are authentically cheap. I'm glad I found you, Farolito.
During my 30 minute wait to order/receive my greasy Mexican tostada, I noticed that there were a LOT of people in the place for 9pm on a Sunday. Also, the man behind me said to his friend that this was THE best place to git cher grub on. So that was encouraging, especially because my original reason to visit the place was:
It is the closest food source to my new abode.
My meal was about three bucks and it featured all of the star players: corn tortilla, refried beans, carne asada, lettuce, tomato, salsa, avo, and a lot of sour cream. I wouldn't rave about it, but it was completely decent and very cheap. I'll reserve true judgment until I have visited El Farolito again and tried a more adventurous dish. I'm sure this will happen, seeing as:
It is the closest food source to my new abode.

I'm over El Farolito. It fits decently in its niche the most easily accessible 3am taqueria in my area, but Cancun serves up more quality if I'm willing to put in some travel in either direction. I've had a lot of super burritos from Farolito where the cheese never melts and just kind of lies there, dry and gross. Sunday crew in particular seems a little less on the ball than any other day. And their chips are disgusting.
Daytime-wise, there's enough fun choices on or around 24th street that it seems a little silly to keep giving Farolito my precious burrito dollars. Vallarta, Guadalajara, or El Faro (on Folsom) have all produced product more polite to my taste buds.
El Farolito has the best burritos on 24th.
Aiiiiiii pappppppppppppiiiiiiiiiiiiii! ch-ch!

This place is dirty. There's meat and cheese falling all over the place, against the wall, next to sink, public access salsa bar, etc. Their gas station style bathroom sucks, I'd rather do the pee pee dance than go there. Can't believe they pass inspection.
I love it. Been going there for years and I won't stop. Parking is difficult, got a red zone ticket once, turned my $5 burrito into a $100 burrito.
Even though the yups came through and messed it up a little, its still my fav taqueria.

Take it from a S.F. Mission native...this is the place!! The atmosphere reminds me of a lot of the neighborhood joints in Mexico that serve the hottest, freshest, and cheapest food in town. This place has been serving my neighborhood and family for more than 25 years.....and we still come back to this day. Grew up on the tortas, super burritos and quesadilla suizas...oh and don't forget an agua fresca to wrap things up with. When traveling abroad I find myself dreaming about this place, might even wake up at night with the shakes or two.
Shrimp Burritos Rock! Farolito has many SF Locations and all close to the muni stops! that's great!

Hot weather brings out the Mexican food cravings in me. I've got my favorite "joint" near me--Taqueria Can-Cun and boyfriend loves La Cumbre.
But today we felt in the mood to be hot, sultry, adulterous. So we cheated on our usuals, perused the casual encounters for food, AKA Yelp, and decided on a quickie with an unknown.
Risky behavior? perhaps.
worth it? Hell yes.
two words: Torta Mexicana. Just. Dude. I mean seriously. All talking ceased while we literally inhaled the crusty, bready, chewy, meaty, avocado-y, creamy, beany, salsa goodness. I asked boyfriend,
"Como Se Dice "holy mother of god this friggin rocks?"
He sez:
"There is no translation."
As others have noted, avocados are super fresh, and the agua fresca, in this case cantaloupe, hit the perfect note. Not too sweet, not too watery.
Just. go. Okay?
And don't tell our other Mexican lovers we were cheating on them, kay?
What happens at Farolito, stays in Farolito.
Peace out.

I'll have to come back and try something else on the menu. I came here on a date a few weeks back and ordered a torta with steak. It was fine... just not delicious. The slice of steak was dry and tough to chew. My "date," who spent half of the meal texting his friend on his iPhone (so not cool, bub), said his al pastor was also dry.
But my friends love El Farolito. They stop by every time they come up from L.A. So there will be a next time. Maybe at the Mission location. To be continued...
I'll tell you how good this place is! I've found plastic wrappers (i assume from the meat) in my food TWICE and I still eat there. They never skimp out on the fillings and their avocado is always perfectly ripe (this is very important to me). Portions are huge, price is realistic. They're open till like 3 am or something crazy late like that so it's great for a midnight, after bar snack.
and I dont know what people are talking about, this place doesn't accept credit cards but there is an ATM right out side and like every bank ever within two blocks so who cares.

I had some better tacos but it is not bad...
and the price is good too.
My first visit to Farolito's was roughly a year ago, it was around 2am (a definite plus right there for being open so late). The food was AMAZING! One of the best Taquerias I've ever been to, toss me a quesadilla suiza anyday! Great food, fair price, excellent service...what more do you want!?
Super Burrito yum! The chorizo and pork combo is awesome. Wash it down with fresca and gorge yourself on their chips and endless salsa. Big portions at a steal!
Great place for that late night street taco craze. Plus, their nachos are excellent.
They are quick with the food and good at what they do. Probably biggest issue is your fellow crowd--if you go late night like I do. Either smelly hipsters/hippies or young, rambunctious (probable) gang associates. That area has gotten a lot better and, my experience with the Mission, if you're just passing through, minding your own and clearly not "representing" the gangs in the nearby area will pretty much be cool. I just go for the tacos, respectfully mind my own and am clearly not "linked" so I've never had any problems. But, you gotta be mindful and alert yet respectful and chill. As for the hipster/hippies, they are often in their own little planet at that hour--easy to ignore.
Tacos and nachos are totally worth it. Burritos, however, are't as good. as some of the nearby competition.

This was my first experience with Mission taquerias, back, gosh, it's almost 11 years ago, when I first moved into the Mission. Which was straight out of college at UCLA, and was really my first experience with a lot of things -- living in a not-so-great neighborhood (two blocks away from this place), walking to everything instead of driving, and so on.
I remember that the very first night I moved up, my car got smashed in the middle of the night where it was parked. It was an awful greeting, and to make it worse, it got pushed several feet forward, into the no parking zone, and I got a ticket. Bad times.
But anyways. This place holds many good memories, and it's a great place to eat. We ate here many, many times while we lived there as it was everyone's favorite taqueria. Super burritos for most of us, carne asada, carnitas, all that. But one guy ordered the torta every single time and swore by it, another guy usually ordered the cesos, or was it the lengua? Which I did try once but still, the idea of it I can't get past.
Now, I live in another part of the Mission and don't go to this location any more, but still, it's one of the best. It's actually much bigger and cleaner than some of its brethren.

The Super Quesadilla will change your life. Yes you think I'm joking but I'm not. Don't even bother with anything else on the menu, ORDER THE SUPER QUESADILLA!!!
Also they have kick ass green sauce (my favorite) and don't skimp on the Avocados. The burritos are good to but really, I'm here to tell you it's all about the Quesadilla.
You can thank me later.

OK, so those of you with long memories will recall that I gave the Farolito on Mission Street a one-star rating and that I promised never to return. That rating still holds, and I have kept my promise. I have inadvertently eaten burritos from this Farolito, though, and because they were always takeout and because they always got my order right, I can't in good conscience give this place one star when I've never had a bad experience here.
So the burritos are good. I hope this place isn't as dirty as its Mission Street counterpart. If there are hipsters aplenty, I don't know, because I've never been inside.

It was with a stomach of resent that I finally obliged to go with my friends to "their" burrito spot (Farolito). I was sure I was setting myself up for disappointment. Somewhere around one year and 30 visits later, Farolito is now "my" burrito spot. In actuality it is now my quesadilla spot. The burrito was downright the best I have had, so I stuck with that for a few months of visits. Upon realizing that all my friends who were on a first name basis with staff were eating quesadillas, I made the switch and have never looked back.
Bonus: Waldo (cashier) might be the friendliest, most smily quesadilla salesman ever.

I got so tired of Mexican food after living in Arizona and New Mexico that when we moved into this neighborhood, I wasn't sure if I was happy about having so many taqueria options.
This place changed my mind. I get to cheaply satisfy my craving for burritos, suizas, or quesadillas and I get to practice my spanish. I've already mentally translated the board, but the employees calling out order numbers is great practice as well.
"Noventa dos!"
in my head: Woo Hoo! I know that one, ninety two!
I'm not a huge fan of their chips, but then I don't like chips in general anyway. One thing to note: if you are ordering something with chicken as a filler, make sure to specify the manner you want the meat cooked. We accidently got boiled chicken, and ended up throwing out the entire burrito. We've specified grilled since then, and we haven't had any problems since.
Best Taqueria -ever-.
I highly suggest the enchilladas.
Always friendly. Always quick. Always delicious and greasy.
In an area inundated with taquerias, this one stands out.
AND it is only a block from my house. LOVE it. May the good mexican food roll.
Great for late nights. The place can be a zoo of the extremes of the human condition.
Yummers!
I have to say that the carne asada tostada with cheese, lettuce, sour cream, avocado and other stuff is a meal fit for a king!
Not to mention that this dish will cost you under $5... a suburb dinner value!
Plus, they have Coca Cola with real cane sugar in it... DOUBLE YUM!
Viva Farolito Taqueria!

I've never set foot in this place but their tacos and burritos are some of the best I've ever eaten. We'll poll the people in our "office" to see if they want 'in' and get everyones' order, then whoever has a car will get the first lunch break and run over to grab the goodies.
Wonderful carnitas tacos and burritos. Tacos are very soft with two corn platters splayed and topped with the most succulent and obviously long marinated and tender carnitas I've ever had in this city. Perfect salsa and sauce and onions as well as cilantro, for $2 a pop. Burritos also have this wonderful extravaganza for one to savor and behold. Fajitas have an excellent reputation as well, as every one of the items all of us have ordered on the menu.
I wish they delivered...

I love me some quesadilla suiza from Farolito Taqueria! It's the only thing I order there and it never disappoints.
there is a really good reason why this has been voted best burrito in sf by city search. it is open to 3 am. if you cant make it from the club to this place in a hour its your own fault. the food is soo good and well priced. SUIZA QUESIDILLA!!!! nothing in the city comes even close to these bad boys. carnitas are amazing
I'm a fan of whole avocados in my burrito. This place may look a bit run down and dirty, but if that bothers you, youre probably a republican.
