YUM... YUM.. YUMMY!

If you want a nice, big, juicy... um B-U-R-R-I-T-O... this is your place!  Each burrito is packed, stacked and rolled with all those rich Mexican flavors your taste buds are dying to have.

If your a lady like me and don't want that burrito to be added to your waist, thighs, arms or any where else, it's big enough to SHARE!  Another great thing... Chips and salsa are free with your order...

Super Burrito, Carne Asada, Black Beans for me!

I wanted to write an update to clarify my last review after I received a very nice and sincere email from Michelle at Los Socios.  I still find this restaurant and staff very friendly and welcoming.  I understand that all restaurants (especially ones downtown w/ very high rents) have had to increase prices to adjust for rising commodity prices, which is perfectly reasonable and necessary to do business.

However, I honestly still recall that when I first became a regular patron at Los Socios a few years back, they used to just have a big bucket of chips, with empty bags there, so you could fill it up yourself.  I've never taken more than just one bag myself, but I do know a couple of my buddies that were a bit irked by this "limit" when there was none before.  It doesn't really bother me, and I completely understand that they needed to institute the "limit" to keep costs in check.

Perhaps the last couple times when I ordered my burritos, I was just unlucky w/ a so-so quality those times.  Maybe it was just an off-day... happens to everyone.  I'd feel terrible if people didn't want to give Los Socios a try, b/c of that.  I still can't give them the full 5-star ratings, b/c I'm no longer a regular customer, but I still think they're an enjoyable restaurant and great for downtown SF.  You should try their burritos and decide for yourself if they merit the full 5-stars.

I realize that this is not "authentic" mexican food but I don't give a rat's... To me the best burrito in the entire city is here. Now I realize that's a pretty strong statement and I've had this discussion with many friends who agree that it's a great burrito (in fact many of them would go at least once a week if not twice for years), but I'm not sure if they'd go as far as the best. I will.

Now it's almost down to 4 stars since Vicki and "burrito guy" moved down to their new restaurant by the ballpark a few years back but I'll keep it at 5 stars for now, at least until the next time I'm forced to wait over 10 minutes to order with nobody in line. I can forgive one slip up in my nearly 7 years of frequenting this establishment.

So what do you get? Well, don't get anything other than a burrito. My burrito is a super chicken, spicy, with black beans and a whole wheat tortilla so as to try and trick myself into thinking there's some semblance of healthy in this burrito (They do use chicken breast which is a big part of why it's the best).

Anyway, thanks Los Socios for many great lunches over the years and even 1 missed connection on CL ;-)

OMG!!!! Best burritos in town! My favorite thing on the menu is the carne asada burrito with everything. Usually when you go to a burrito place and order a steak burrito, you get tiny little overcooked steak bits. Los Socios gives you steak slices!!!! Tender and grilled to perfection. Way to go Luis! Keep 'em coming!

Before going here, there are some things you need to know. This is a lunch place so it's not open long. Second, it is SUPER BUSY!!!!! Whether your walk in or place your order via phone, please be aware that they do the best they can to keep the lines and orders coming so don't mistake them for rude. They're just taking care of business to serve everyone. Also, they make the best roasted salsa ever! But, they do run out. There is a sign that says two containers of salsa (any salsa, not each one) and one bag of chips per person. You pack it yourself which can be a pain in busy place with tons of people. And you pack your own chips and salsa even if you pick up. Don't bother placing that with your order. Although, you might be rubbed the wrong way due to the chaos, the staff actually does notice you and eventually does come to know you and know what ya like.

I so wish this place was open for dinner because these are the kinds of burritos you crave!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Los Socios today.  I didn't expect much because Mexican food in the FiDi is pretty lackluster.  But as soon as I had a bite of my carnitas super burrito here, I knew I had been narrowminded and presumptuous.  My burrito was tightly packed with just enough greasy meat and beans, and wasn't watery like the burritos at Orale and Palapas.  Plus the salsa was pretty tangy and complemented the burritos and tortilla chips well.
This restaurant is right across the street from my building so I am definitely coming back to high five that Mexican statue outside.

This place is Cali Mex and convenient.

Tips for if/when you go:
- it looks like you order and then sit like at a cafe, but it's not
- if you want to eat there, wait for her to seat you--the line is for take-out only
- quesadillas and burritos are popular and tasty--good meat
- don't get the roasted veggie anything--the veggies are overdone so all you have left is burnt eggplant skin
- Mexican Cokes are sweeter than US Cokes
- the two types of salsa aren't too spicy so dig in

Enjoy!

So much good and so very little bad. Los Socios, or as Chris Farley would have referred to it, The Socios, is a great option for takeout Mexican lunch. In fact, it's really hard to beat.

Above all else, the food stands on its own. It's great. All the meat is legit - no knees or beaks or weird rubbery pieces mixed into the chicken; they subscribe to the lost art of shredding beef; and the steak is thinly sliced and super tasty.

The burritos are great in a quantity of one or by the shit ton - we get them ordered in for Free Lunch Wednesdays at work from time to time, and they're nearly just as good as when they're made to order. The tostadas are substantial and filling, and taste somewhat healthy too. I actually feel like I've opted for a "lite" Mexican lunch when I choose to tostada rather than to burrito.

They've also managed to create the most amazing salsa I can remember tasting. All good things.

Now for the not so good. Eating IN Los Socios is not so fun. The owners and help staff are nice enough, but the layout is not very conducive to enjoying your meal or relaxing at all. It's so small and the line for takeout runs right behind your table, so there's this constant feeling of anxiety as you throw down your food as fast as you can and try to dodge elbows from takeout customers.

Takeout isn't much better. The layout again leaves much to be desired. Once you've placed your order there's really no safe place to loiter - on one side you're blocking the waitress at every move, and are constantly ducking and dodging so she can deliver food from the kitchen. On the other side you're basically intermixed with the rest of the line and on top of the chips n' salsa bar. No matter where I stand in there I feel bad like I'm in someone's way.

And finally, while Los Socios may have the best salsa in all the land, they also have militant policies protecting its consumption. The Law, as they call it, states that you may only take ONE little (and I do mean little)  bag of chips and TWO containers of salsa.

Um...excuse me? Are you really trying to ration my chips n' salsa? I'm a 30 year old man who just paid you $7 for some meat wrapped up in a tortilla. I can make my own salsa decisions, and if I prefer two bags to one, I think I'm entitled. Don't get petty on the small stuff. I like to have plenty of chips n' salsa to take down with my meal, and I feel like I'm committing highway robbery every time I try to take enough salsa to match my chip intake. I'm the guy who scoops a hefty dip of salsa on each chip, and I can double and sometimes triple dip my chips. I'm gonna need 3 or 4 salsas, and I don't want to have to go say hail Marys afterwards.

So, Bottom Line Johnson, the food is spectacular if you can stand being shamed at every turn. If you've got the self-confidence, Los Socios is not to be missed. Just make sure you order takeout, and wear an overcoat to smuggle extra salsas.

Stop, DROP your paltry FiDi burrito or overpriced boxed salad and make a trip to Los Socios. As of NOW! Not making an arguement for best burrito in San Francisco, because you will not find them here, or most affordable for that matter.  What you will get is a great meal.

When you first enter Los Socios, struck by the vibrancy of the place. Walls painted in bright colors, and even one nice brick wall, masks hanging from the wall and other decorations reminiscent of a leftover dia de lost muertos party. Still looking for some sugar skulls. Place is always packed with people eating-in. Come early if you want to snag a spot. To place a to-go order, walk up to the counter, follow the smell of mango salsa. Place oder, pluck down your money and wait.

In the meantime, grab your ONE bag of chips and TWO cups of Salsa. That is the LAW. Anymore of either, and put money in the bowl. Skip the red salsa, because the green one is very tasty. Not hot, but I am a wuss when it comes to hot.

Food menu is full of good items, and there are always weekly specials. Printed and taped to the front window on blue paper, and on the counter by the register. Usually opt for the carnitas burrito, with pintos beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream. Think SUPER! Mango salsa adds a nice flavor to the quickly grilled, looks and taste, burrito.

No need to worry, there is no food induced coma with these burritos. Somehow they magically fill me up with out my EYELIDS dropping as I slowly slouch in my office chair.

Viva Los Socios (at least for FiDi lunches)!

I'm currently on my 'half' diet...working on portion control, now that those extra calories have parked themselves post holiday and post Dine About Town.

The Grilled Veggie burrito with Whole Wheat wrap hit the spot on my quest to eating better.  Okay, I gave in and ate 'half' a bag of their scrumptious chips and salsa (saved the other half for dinner).  2 meals for the price of 1, yay!

Just a word of warning, their hot salsa is really HOT!  But darn good. :)

Yes, it was a decent burrito....call me spoiled as I live in the Mission and find myself at the office during the day, surrounded by bad-to-mediocre burritos.

I was having a particularly tough day at work. I had BROUGHT my lunch, but NEEDED to get out...and needed the comfort...the kind of comfort only found in a burrito.

So, I jumped on Yelp. I had heard of El Faro, but the reviews were horrible. Los Socios looked reasonable....and it was priced much-more-reasonably than most of the other burrito digs in the Financial District. So, I trudged down in a bad mood, hopeful that I could find a decent "foil bomb" to satisfy my craving.

It did satisfy my craving, though I was put off by the fact that my "grilled" veggies were zapped in a microwave before going in my burrito....and the guy MAKING my burrito stopped halfway through to answer his cell phone...all with no gloves on. (But, hey, I'm sure my most-favorite burrito places in the Mission are less-than-clean, ya dig?)

It was good, though. It didn't send me over-the-top, but it gave me some veggie options versus the standard beans and rice fare most veggies are subjected to.

The chips are heavenly and they give you PLENTY to take with you :) The salsa...was a little weird. The green salsa was tasty, though.

I would actually sit down and eat in here someday. It's a cutesy little place with chips and salsa already out for you when you arrive.

Decent; probably the best burrito you'll get around here.

Great little place to eat lunch at. My coworker and I read the reviews before coming here. The waitress was nice and she asked how we found out about the place and we told her Yelp.  I ordered the steak burrito and Mexican coke - both were very good. I'd come back here again. By the way the Jason - from Friday the 13th mask was on the wall - very cool.

this place in convenient for those wanting mexican food in the financial district at lunchtime. the food is pretty good, as is the salsa. it's not too terribly overpriced, but that being said, you get charged for everything. more salsa? that'll cost ya. the service is definitely nothing to jump up and down for. i would recommend you get your food and go eat it somewhere else. it gets crazy busy around 12, so i'd say hit them up around 11:30 before the lunchtime crowd starts.

Had the grilled steak tostada here, and was pleasantly surprised. It came with the standard tostada fixins AND grilled sweet potatoes, which were a wonderful little addition. The salad dressing is good, but I definitely could have used more. Tasty salsas, and decent prices.

I only ever order the tortilla pizza with chicken but it's a pretty tasty dish that you don't find at any other taqueria.  The flat bread that they use is pretty thick to be a flour tortilla but if it was your standard tortilla it would probably turn out soggy instead of nice and crispy.  Add some shredded chicken, tomatoes, green onions, lots of cheese and red sauce and you have a hit.

The decor is very festive and matches the music they usually play pretty well.

It's a half sit-down/half take-out place.  A hybrid if you will, kind of like the Toyota Prius.

However too many bean burritos will definitely not save you (from) gas as it turns out, so think of the environment before coming here.

The food here is quite good though, authentic enough to make for great taste, but classy enough to impress--a somewhat rare find here in the FiDi.

A super burrito at around $7, which includes a greasy bag of chips, makes for a great satisfying lunch.  Coworkers who use the bathroom after you will definitely be pleased..

I knew I was going to be in trouble this week because we neglected to do the grocery shopping this past Sunday.  No groceries means no edible food for the week.  I just didn't have the heart or the will power to eat sardines and tuna for the entire week.  Being that this was a very busy week for me, a grocery run mid-week was out of the question.

Hence came the week of glutton.  Anyone who reads my Yelp reviews (meaning no one) on a regular basis would see more reviews in this short span for the reason I had to eat out this week to function normally.  My waist, my heart, my colon all have been cursing me in the last 5 days.  To wrap up the "week of glutton" I thought what better way to reward my heart than feed it some Mexican food.  A sort of "thanks for not killing me my precious heart, now let me put you back to work."

I founded upon Los Socios which I imagine means the partners given my Spanglish tendencies.  I've always had a fond heart for mom and pop run places and I appreciated hearing from the proprietor in this thread.  Based upon some of the reviews I was expecting to throw my tough ass skin on and go to battle.  Instead, the gentleman behind the counter was very friendly.  I saw the proprietor checking mail and making sure no one was burning down her place.

I had the carnitas platter and it was pretty good.  For $8, I think you get just over 3/4 cup carnitas, Mexican rice, black beans, pico, three corn tortillas, plus the complimentary chips and salsa.

Pico = 5!! (Delicious pico, salt, limes and tomatoes never tasted so good!)
Carnitas = 4
Mexican Rice - (no vote, never liked Mexican rice)
Black Beans = 3 (Even as gringo I like my black beans without melted cheese on them).
Tortilla Chips = 4
Service = 5 (Quick and friendly)
Salt factor = 4 (It had enough salt for flavor without overdoing it)

The restaurant is a decent deal for the Financial District.  As the location is between high end restaurants and Chinatown, it seems a bit out of place but seems to put out decent food.  If I miss my grocery shopping again I might just poke my head in and try something else.

An establishment that  I frequent because of its proximity to my office and my love for its food.  I like to keep my eye on the weekly specials, but my favorite is a quesadilla of any kind.   The food is consistently good.  The table cloths make me smile.  The signs about "the law" make me laugh.  The staff is open to called-in orders, but dining in is a treat.

Adoro a  de Los Socios! Yummy! Actually, even though it is only 9:11 a.m. because I am thinking about it, I might actually go there for lunch today! To be fair, I really love Mexican food, so I suppose my review might be bias, but it really is tasty.

Great food! Their chicken taco is perfect if you are in the mood for something simple, or you can go big and get the Super Burrito or Super Taco, which definitely counts as all 3 meals. I usually am not hungry for dinner when I have had a super burrito for lunch!

True, there is a sign about the chips and salsa, but my male co-worker who sometimes picks up lunch for us grabs a bag and he has never been beaten bloody, but I never take any extra salsa because I don't want to give myself a bad wrap there!

I usually call in my order because the set up in there is really cramped and you have to climb over people to get chips and salsa or grab your food. The lady who waits on people in here has gotten a bad wrap, but I don't think she is so bad! I went in late once and we were chatting while waiting for my food. She seems more European wait staff type to me, then American (i.e. none of the cheesy bothersome compliments and checking on your 12 times during your meal.) but I suppose smiling more wouldn't kill her.

Anyway, great place. 4 stars (its American Mexican food (as advertised) and they don't make Chile rellenos) :)

Steak burrito with guacamole and black beans on a whole-wheat tortilla.  This is what I'm eating right now.  Burrito, good.

Sometimes you just need a little comfort food and let's face it, nothing hugs you from the inside out like a hearty pile of goodness tightly wrapped in an edible blanket of joy.

Now, I've read the other reviews and two things: 1) yes, there is a soup-nazi-esque to this place, which is why I recommend the phone in, pick up and get out quickly method, and 2) they are no longer cash only - Visa/MasterCard are happily accepted or so their little sign on the register indicates.

Burrito, good.

Awesome burritos!!! And the chips are to die for. All I have to say on the subject. Really, if you want to head down the street to 'El Farros' or that god awful wraps place then by all means but this place is the REAL deal.

For less than 7 bucks I get my special burrito (with Bananas, YUMMY)

As a side note, I checked this out to see if anybody else has had a 'unique run-in' with any of the staff... I nabbed a few extra chips while I was waiting today and she totally busted me! But since I couldn't hear her over the fan, I said "say again?", and this really incensed her so much she couldn't contain herself! Very emotional... But hey, shes a passionate soul, and I get that. And she seems to be putting it into that delicious food they put out :) Go Los Socios!

Meh. That's how I feel about this place. The chips and salsa were really good, but that was definitely the highlight. I spent $6 for a regular chicken burrito (beans, rice, salsa, meat), which seems steep to me but I've come to accept high food prices in the FiDi. So with that aside, I again can only say Meh. The burrito was only luke warm and I understand it's cold outside but the walk back to my office is about 30 seconds...I mean...come on. The chicken had decent flavor but it was just nothin special. You're only allowed to take one bag of chips (which I was personally okay with bcuz there were plenty of chips in a bag for one person) but you could only take two salsas! Granted, I could have paid another dollar for the amount of extra salsa I wanted to take, but it's the principal dammit! At mexican restaurants, especially ones that serve mediocre, expensive burritos, one should be able to get as much salsa as one wants for FREE! Preach.

Solid burritos, with good quality, moist chicken and tasty rice and beans.  Granted, one cannot compare these with Mission taquerias.  But for the FiDi this is the burrito place to go.  Plus they have quick service.  Oh and pretty tasty thick tortilla chips.  Salsas are OK -- spicy, regular tomatillo and roasted.

Calling all Burritos:

You should ALL have mango salsa wrapped inside your bad tortilla selves like the ones at Los Socios!  I will guarantee that every single bit of you will be devoured and you won't have to be transported in what we humans call a "doggy bag" back to a cold refrigerator of an existence, where you will either suffer through some microwave zaps, or get buried alongside other unwanted human waste.  That sounds like a sad end to the story, doesn't it?  Don't you want to go out in glory by having us, the humans, enjoy every single bit of you right when you get served?  Well, what are you waiting for?   Go out and get you some mango salsa!!!

Best Super Chicken Burrito in the FD, not to mention this CRAZY DELICIOUS salsa made with ROASTED chili peppers. HOWEVER, when you're getting food to go, DO NOT EVEN THINK of grabbing more salsa than is allowed, as per sign posted visibly above the salsa. No, seriously ...

Ordering here brings flashbacks of that Seinfeld Soup-Nazi episode,  you know the one.

DO NOT make any sudden moves, and FOR CHRISSAKE, know what you want before it's your turn. Then,  clearly and concisely enunciate your order when the woman behind the counter acknowledges your existence. DO NOT make small talk, DO NOT pause to ask your friends what they want- at this point, it's every person for them self. Have the correct cash in hand, and GOD HELP YOU if you have a difficult name. Then, do that horizontal shuffle to the right and OUT of this woman's way, IF you know what's good for you.

Oh, and if you decide to eat-in, so you can really soak up all the love, MOST DEFINITELY DO NOT tell the really sweet space-cadet who's serving you how SCARY you think the woman behind the counter is.  Turns out,  that's her Mom!

While it definitely isn't the best vegetarian burrito in SF it certainly is the best in the Financial District.  And the waterwelon juice isn't bad either.  5 stars only because their food tastes like ambrosa compared to the expensive tasteless restaurants of the Financial District.

This place is a waste of my lunch time.  The service is horrible and the food is mediocre.  There are plenty of great lunch spots in the financial district so don't waste your time or money here.

I found the salsa quite good - the place earns two stars for it.

Other than that, be afraid ... be very afraid.

Average food, GROUCHY *itch behind the counter (also known to infringe upon the good mood of the patrons) and a seriously sad and apparently frightened little waitress.

Sometime last year:

My husband (a very nice and tender man) and I (the extreme opposite) work close by; decide to pop in to this itsy bitsy place known for decent food.  We each order the same dish.  The razor angry old woman (aka: our waitress) brings our lunch, my husband says (with a smile), "oh, the other one is mine".  This really toyed with her mind because she hesitated and attempted to switch the plates, so he said "I'm kidding with you, they're the same meal".  Oops, Lar!  You shoulda kept your mouth SHUT!  She literally dropped his plate in front of him on the table and stalked away!!!  Geeze, Louise!  You got mental issues?  Low on hormones?  Been abused?  What the hell is your problem!!!???

We look at each other and shrug it off.

The check came.  I paid, and hesitated in the "tip" line.  Looked up and spotted the space cadet close by ... waived her over ... Larry said "don't say anything, it's probably her mother" ...

Space cadet levitates to our table, I ask "who is that  woman?"(I point to Razor Woman), to which she slurs "that's my mother"    !!!!!!! LOL!  I just about fell over with laughter!

We'll give it ONE more try ... About a week ago: Space Cadet took 20 minutes to remember we needed sugar for our iced tea and about 10 minutes to take our order.  Razor Woman must've been in the back taking her mean pill; didn't see her (thank GAWD!)

Not enough reason for me to come back.

Good Cal-Mex that makes an excellent and fast lunch for those in the Financial District. The food is good and inexpensive and the service is fast. Eat in or take-out, you're on way your quickly. Also, for the gluten free, they are happy to substitute corn tortillas for flour.

Best burrito in the Financial District by far!  I'm giving it 5 stars based on that distinction alone.  I get the veggie burrito which has a perfect amount of beans/rice/cheese/lettuce.  mm mm.  And the salsa bar and free chips is fantastic.  The server is also always so nice and cheery, but not in a perky, annoying sort of way (and, yeah, Preet's right, she's kind of a space cadet).  And the prices are damn good too.

what a total rip-off!  ordered 2 steak taco's with onion and cilantro and they charged me 10.85, yes you heard me 10.85.  wow, dry corn tortillas, almost inedible steak (or what I think was steak) and a few pieces of withered cilantro and some onion shavings...what a deal huh?  this place sucks, if you want to pay mad money for some crappy Mexican than go for it.  you'd be better off at el faro on Kearny...at least their prices are more reasonable.

Quality Tex-mex for the financial district lackey.  I recommend the super quasedilla with carne asada, no sour cream.  Their Guac is the best I've seen anywhere; pure avocado with no dilution using sour cream like many places do to save money.  They have fine chips included with your meal and great red hot salsa that seems like it's made solely from red chili peppers in a blender.  Green sauce also and a brown sauce I don't care for at all.  Price is a bit high and waitress is a bit crazy so I don't go here too much anymore, but I can't deny that I enjoy my meal a lot when I go.

Ginormas tacos with pounds of salsa and lettuce on top of it.  Great mexican pizza with different color sauces to flavor itself up...pretty cheap for the amount of food you get...NOTE: they only take cash..as does every other place here in the financial district

I work across the street so this is a natural lunch spot for me.  However there are a million lunch spots in the financial district so I only return because the food is good quality and tasty!

Things that are important to me here:
- very healthy food & ingredients: no lard!!
- they have weekly specials and always have great vegetables in their specials.  I often get the special quesadilla + chicken and it has never let me down.  Memorable ones include cabbage and zucchini+black beans.
- fresh chips and salsa!  The chips are terribly addictive and tasty - don't for get your bag!  And the salsa?  I love blackened salsa and theirs is very nice.
- you can call in to-go orders or sit in and have table service

The only bad: Cash Only.  This is something that really irritates me but not enough to keep me from coming back.

Price is reasonable for the area, usually ~$7 for the weekly quesadilla + chicken.

This place is great.  I get my lunch there at least once a week and they have never ever EVER failed me yet.  I'm addicted to the Mexican salad with chicken and lime cilantro dressing.  MMMM. The dressing is sublime ... I dream about it.  Love their chips and salsa and as everyone in the Financial knows, their burritos rule.

When I start to feel that life in a cube has no meaning, I order something with habanero salsa, usually a quesadilla.  That usually helps.  No, I didn't say it "yelps" which seems more like "sucks".   I said it helps.

Also, the woman who runs the front of house has just the right touch of attitude and is awesome.   I can't believe some of the comments on here!   Since when is it "cool" to insult somebody's mom???  Some of you suckers ... I mean yelpers need to get a life.

Tasty burritos, complimentary chips and salsa with each order (extra chips $1, extra salsa $.25), quick service, and most importantly, cash only! Super burritos are large, so if you are going back to work, be prepared to be sleepy....

If there were more competition in the Financial District, I would waiver between a 3 and a 4.  But there is not, so a 4 is what you will get.
Los Socios is a solid burrito on the edge of the financial district near North Beach and Chinatown.  While their burritos are not perfect they have a lot going for them:
The ingrediants are fresh and healthy tasting.
The salsa is good.
Normally I ace the rice in my burritos, but this rice is peppery and tasty.

There are downsides--a strange vibe to the place isn't really a downside, just not what one would expect.  The woman who runs it gets a bad rap--I think she is nice enough, just a bit curt and rigid.  I think this explains the strict "2 cups of salsa rule" and the "no credit cards so don't ask!" signs.

Overall, a nice place to have near me in the financial district during the work week.

One of the few Mexican restaurants in the financial district that is good.  I would go here at least once a month.  I do miss this restaurant as a place i used to access with ease.  Go for great salsita!

Buen Provecho!
