Yeah, I sometimes eat overpriced designer salads. Get over it. I already know that my mother would smack me if she found out how much I've paid for lettuce. Actually, my tiny mother wouldn't bother reaching all the way up to smack me but she would hurl a head of romaine at me and tell me to get chopping. It's really not my fault that the Mixt Greens people developed a clever food marketing scheme with great mass appeal. My favorite is the Maui.

Now that I'm no longer in SF, I'm missing Mixt Greens. I am so disappointed that these salad bars in new york don't have soba noodles or edamame as options. Instead I am forced to choose between chopped tomatoes or croutons. Whyyyyy.

This place is like my go-to place for lunch during work, I come here very often to grab a great, fresh, healthy salad. You can taste the clean freshness of the ingredients. What I really love is that they ask you how you want your dressing - I hate it when people over-soak salads with dressing. Don't be daunted by the huge line during lunch rush - it moves faster than you think. The one and only gripe I have is the price - a little too expensive, but for the most part I think it's worth the yummy, healthy salads.

Great for a quick bite at lunch. The salad menu is very unique and the "make-your-own-portion" of the salad menu is excellent as well. I probably will make this a lunch time staple. A word to the wise, get there before 11:45am or after 1:15pm for quicker service. The word is out, this place is really good.

Mixt Greens has some very unique, yet tasty salads and sandwiches.  I particularly enjoy the salads with the various nuts (almonds, peanuts, etc.) and fruits (strawberries, rasberries, etc.) mixed in with their greens and tuna salads.  I'd recommend trying their meatloaf sandwich, b/c it's the best meatloaf I've ever had imho (in my humble opinion).

The location is awesome, b/c you can sit outside and enjoy the great weather, do some people-watching, and just relax.  Fair warning though, my co-worker did complain once that he had tree sap drip on him and his lady when they were enjoying their meal outside, so perhaps you shouldn't sit directly by the trees?

The only downer here is the ridiculous price, b/c it's going to cost you $10+ for a meal here, and these aren't magical salads.  They are good, but are they really that good?.. hmm.. not so in my case.  Perhaps you're really paying for the atmosphere.

Wow these salads are OFF THE HOOK! You can make your own custom one, or just go with the many nice combos they have created on the Menu. I happened to have the mixed greens as a side to my really tastey Prosciutto sandwich. Very nice time eating it.

After finally getting into my hotel at the Le Meridien on Clay and Battery at 2AM, I woke up hungry - so my friends and I decided to head to Mixt Greens on Commercial and Sansome for lunch.  This place has a really nice ambience to it, especially being a storefront restaurant on an optimum corner space in the Financial District.  It receives a lot of sun, which adds to its "organic" and "green-friendly" demeanor.

While the salad I got (the Madison - mixt greens, herb marinated grilled chicken, asparagus, roasted white-truffle potatoes, shaved parmesan, toasted pine nuts, whole grain mustard vinaigrette) was amazing and there was a LOT of it - at $10.95, it is a bit pricey, so it loses a star.  They do have pre-made salads in a serve-yourself area, so that could be figuratively cheaper, especially if you're on the go.  We got there at around noon, and not long after we paid, the line grew pretty long.

One really good salad - a bit overpriced - but nonetheless, great ambience.

Food baby rating = 3 (filled me up, but since it's a salad, like all salads, I was hungry again within 5 hours...)

I wish Mixt Greens would expand their locations all over the city.  Good, fresh salads that come with a semi-high price. A great lunch or even dinner option. Their croutons don't compare to Pluto's enormous garlic oily ones, but they are still good. Love their balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The line moved pretty darn fast at lunch. Eat a 'healthy' salad for lunch and then go around the corner and pick up a buttery, warm, chocolate cookie at Specialty's. Mmmm.

For $11 bucks I could probably make a salad that would rock my world.  Which is NOT what this place did for me.  Maybe I chose the wrong ingredients in building my own salad??  The line is LOOOONG.  Like out the door down the block long.  I will have to try this place again to get a better feel.

Why do I eat salad?  Because I hate to exercise and I've convinced myself that by eating greens for lunch, instead of a burger, I'm being really healthy and the weight will fall off.

You can only eat spinach or lettuce in so many ways... so it was a welcome treat to find a place that makes salad interesting.

First of all, the look of this place is amazing.  Not so much the building itself, but the layout of the long counter filled with anything and everything you can think of to go in your salad.

I couldn't decide what to put on my salad, so I went with the Mixt Cobb.  The thing was huge!  I only ate half before I put down my fork in defeat.  Chunks of grilled chicken, yummy bacon, eggs, and fresh greens.  Loved the vinaigrette dressing.  Not too tangy.

I can just feel the pounds melt right off (riiiight)

I dunno.  I've eaten a few times at the "other" Mixt Greens on Sansome and it was great.  I got the Cowboy Salad there--yum.

I tried this location yesterday and thought I'd mix it up with a Maui Salad--seared ahi and such.  It was pretty awful.  The ahi was decent, but the salad, well, sucked.  You know the hard pale heart of a head of lettuce?  well, it was nothin' but those.  A little bitter and dry and unappetizing.  The dressing left something to be desired too.

And of course the lines were  L O N G  (about 20 mins) and the salad cost $11.  I'll put up with that for a great salad, but this place just made me go, "hmmmph."

NEWS FLASH :  MIXT GREENS IS RICH BEYOND BELIEF!

Something about this place reeks ... yeah reeks of cold hard cash.  In a time where people bitch about the price of gas and drive miles outside their commute to save a few pennies on the price of unleaded, you have a place like Mixt Greens that has found the perfect way to stick it to the consumer and have them pay with a smile.

I came here to buy my wife a salad, some Dagwood thing with added chicken only to find out to get out of the door legally, I'd have to pay $12.  My mind did a double-take as I handed over my credit card who was seriously wanting to hunker back in the confines of my wallet.

Think about it $12 for a SALAD?  We're talking lettuce, halved baby tomatoes, some carmelized onion thingy, chickpeas, peppers and balsamic dressing ... $12?  How bout you sprinkle a little gold in there buddy.  I've eaten here before and yes the salads are good but this mantra just goes to prove a couple of things:

There isn't enough time in the day
or
We are lazy
or
Brown bag is boring
or
People are really making a lot of money
or
I'm dirt poor bitching about it

You're right it's probably a combination of all of them.  Put some fresh ingredients in a metal bowl, swirl it around like you're cleaning a toilet and sell it for $12.  Why the hell didn't I think about this?  Not to mention there was a massive line of people waiting to eat this stylistic masterpiece.

I salute you Mixt Greens.  You have found the secret to make people want to pay massive amounts of cold hard cash.  Make it easy, fresh and under the guise of healthy!  High five!

So I found the place where the corporate elite meet to eat and stay petite. Something tells me there isn't much crossover between the clientele here and the customers at Best-o-Burger. But I could be wrong...damn bulimics.

Oh yes, the people who eat here want to be seen for the healthy lifestyles they espouse. They stand in line for days showing off their tapered torsos and firm thighs covered in form-fitting power suits. I hate them. As for me, well, I can't compete in such a line without thinking of signing up for Weight Watchers...again. That's why I scurry over to the refrigerated area and try my luck with the packaged salads.

Yes, they're tasty. I've worn my chaps without my underwear and had the $8.95 Cowboy Salad - which has romaine hearts, herb marinated grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, black beans, cheddar, red onion, Point Reyes blue cheese dressing with a chipotle honey drizzle. I've also been in a more carnivorous, spendy mood and had the $11.95 Bachelor Salad - which has red leaf lettuce, grilled prime flatiron, herb roasted Yukon potatoes, roasted cherry tomatoes, blue cheese, balsamic vinaigrette - all topped with caramelized onions. Delish but kind of a ka-ching for a casual lunch if you ask me.

I actually think the sandwiches are a comparatively better deal, and I've tried the $8.95 Rooster - herb-marinated grilled chicken, sliced apple, fontina cheese, basil pesto, greens, aioli, on Acme bread. I'm generally not one to like fruit-and-meat combinations, but this one works kinda like a Waldorf Salad on a roll. Someday I'll be petite enough to stand in line among the elite. But not today...I feel fat.

FOOD - 4 stars...good nutrition has its price, y'know
AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...gee, I'm in and out of there like a house afire
SERVICE - 3 stars...serviceable enough considering the throngs
TOTAL - 4 stars...freshness over price pushes this one to a four-star alternative for lunch...just not all the time

i was one of their first customers when they opened and now they have expanded to two locations. awesome.

this was one of my favorite lunch spots when i worked in the city, and i so wish there was something comparable down here in cupertino. alas, i will have to get my mixt greens fix whenever i work in our sf office for the day.

their ingredients are fresh and organically grown. what's more, your salads are made to order. if you're too busy to stand in iine, you can grab a pre-packaged salad -- they offer a great selection to cater to most taste preferences. my personal faves were fusion and the madison salads.

i also love the simple, minimalistic decor, the nice ambiance, and their dedication to being eco-friendly. the place is cheerful, friendly, and their staff is very helpful and friendly. overall, a great dining experience.

White truffle potatoes? You people must be trying to kill me. There is this big conspiracy to make Anita B. fat. Seriously.
That said, on days I can actually stay away from those, they make some great salads. It makes me feel that I'm being healthy. I love this place. If you're trying to eat healthy foods and you can resist temptations and stay away from the potatoes, this is your place. I recommend it.

Not the fast place or the cheap place for lunch, but these are some damn good salads.  The ingredients are top notch and include loads of thing you can't normally get at a salad bar, including ahi tuna, soba noodles, blackberries, pine nuts, etc.  The little white truffle potatoes aren't going to help you if you're eating salad to lose weight, but they are so yummy.

I like this location because, even though the line is just as long and the minimalist decor is the same, there is a lot more outdoor seating.

I am so conflicted as to how many stars to give this place. Being an avid Pluto's fan (please see previous review) I'm all about a place that serves fresh, make it yourself, filling salads.

Mixt Greens has amazing options including ahi tuna, mango,  bleu cheese, marinated steak.....and its all incredibly fresh.

HOWEVER, if all i get is a whole bunch of lettuce with a *sprinkle* of the toppings I asked for and get charged $11 for it.....i start questioning my lunchtime decision.

These stars go only towards the *idea* of what this place could offer. Being stingy with the food and then STILL overcharging is like being a not-so-attractive person and then also being a big jerk-off.....you gotta have SOME redeeming qualities to keep people coming back for more.

This place is really really good, but to pay over 15 bucks for a salad to go is ridiculous to me. It's good that everythings organic and stuff. But, the price here is crazy. If I come here, which is like once every 2 months when i feel like treating myself, I come here late in the afternoon. Cause they ten d to run out of tri-tip and give you filet mignon instead. At least the last two times I went here, I came around 2 so I got the filet. Still doesn't justify the price, but Pluto's is just way too far away from fidi. Sometimes this place can make your salad a little too salty for my taste, especially when you think about eating slowly while you work.

i have totally changed my mind.  i switched jobs and now it's my main lunch option.  under those circumstances, i had no choice but to create the ultimate mixt greens salad. (they should name it after me--try it--butter lettuce, apple, cheddar, candied walnuts, croutons, carrot, heavy balsamic, it sounds weird but it works).
also, those cookies--are they joking with those? they've got so much buttery goodness i cannot resist.  and when they are warm? someone hold me back.

still, $9 for a salad?  ouch.

in sum, i feel that i have flip-flopped and it is ok.  the ability to change one's mind upon further inspection is a sign of great intellect.  if only someone had told the american public that in 2004 we might not have suffered 4 more years of W.  i realize this is a mixt greens review, but i swear it relates.

April update:
I have finally tried the Madison salad and it is pretty great. I think I can eat this salad even when I don't feel like salad! Hopefully this will help with my waistline.

******************
I feel like this place is a wanna-be Pluto's without the hippie factor. Good food but so crowded at lunch. It's also a bit pricey for a box of salad. But, it's convenient and fast (if you grab from the pre-made area) and good for something easy.

Last week they ran out of bread for sandwiches (wtf?). We were waiting in line, drooling over the Rooster and the Parma descriptions and got put on the spot when we got to the front and were told "no more bread."

So the mixer talked me into trying it as a wrap. I said sure and he tossed my Rooster sandwich insides and my side salad all in a wrap. It was actually quite good and easier to eat than poking at little salad greens with a plastic fork. More eco-friendly as well.

salad.  generally consumed on monday's when i've enjoyed a full weekend of gluttony.  granted the sharp cheddar, herb roasted potatoes, and applewood smoked bacon don't make it the healthiest thing in the world... but at least i FEEL like i'm eating healthy.

i need carbon credits since i've been getting 15mpg lately, so the green restraurant thing with compostable utensils and containers all makes me feel like i'm doing some small part in reversing my environmental destruction...

minus a star for running out of spinach yesterday and always having a long ass line even when i go at "off peak".  if you're here as frequently as i am be sure to ask for a frequent lunch card when you pay.  10 salads or sandwiches and the next one is on them.

I like the idea that Mixt Greens embodies: organic, healthy, and environmentally-friendly food. Although I'd have to agree with other yelpers, the prices are bit a steep but it fits the location. I like most of their salad combos; I haven't tried their sandwiches but they look delicious too. It's also nice that you can make your own salad combo. One negative is the long lines...despite the salad mixers & cashiers working with rapid efficiency, there's a long line out the door during lunch hour.

So I already reviewed the other Mixt Greens on Sansome because I go there more often (closer to work), but I do make the extra 2 block trek up to this Mixt Greens if I actually have time to take a decent lunch break and want to sit down while I eat.

If you want to know how I feel about the food, you can just check out my other review. Basically, I love having this option and the salads are always fresh and yummy. I also recently fell in love with their marinated tofu topping - yum. Pricey, yes, but eating here makes you feel so good about yourself for eating healthy it's worth it.

This location would just get the basic 4 stars from me, but it gets that elusive 5th star because one time I went in and they were playing a Bayside song over the speakers! Whoever chose to play that song, I need to meet you and thank you for making my day. Love that band.

I'm boycotting this place not because of the quality of their salads but simply because $10-12 for a salad is absolutely rediculous for a lunch spot.  Here are some tips guys:  rub/marinate a nice NY steak, cook it to your liking, slice it thin and slap it on some lettuce with a vinagrette and some caramelized onions - boom you've got the Bachelor! OR marinate some chicken breast halves with herbs, make your own chipotle dressing and bam, you've got the cowboy!  Enough said!  These are salads I could make in two seconds and better!

This place is a little overpriced for what you get. That being said my salad was fresh, which is oh-so-important.

The salad I got was "the bachelor." The balsamic dressing was really thick and didn't spread well, which was a quite frustrating. The toppings were also a little sparse for my taste.

Faves: the caramelized onions & the meat were tasty.

I really love the salads. Truly. When you can get that perfect combination of staples and dressing and lettuce...perfection. However, the first, oh, 20 times I came in I would feel a brief anxiety attack wash over me.

2 staples and 2 specialtys? 4 staples and 1 specialty? Dressing? Mom?

I started to get the hang of it and have created some pretty amazing lunches that I still think about, yet can never remember EXACTLY what the combo was. Its a surprise every time.

minus one star for that fact they have convinced me I need a $10+ salad more than once a week.

I don't know why but I think this place is overrated.  The line is long and full of healthy professionals who think spending 10 dollars on a salad is worth it because it comes in a little clear box with a sticker on top.  I had the pleasure of hauling ass over here for my coworkers and picking up a huge order and lugging it back.   THe service is pretty good and the packaging is clean & organized.  But the food was your basic rabbit food packaged up nicely.

I have Mixt feelings about Mixt Greens.  On the one hand, I like salads.  I'm vegetarian, you see.  Of course, most of their salads are not vegetarian.  But you can "make your own" (which means tell them what to put in it) and make lots of vegetarian combos.  So these are excellent salads, the ingredients are high-quality and fresh and tasty, and the combinations are fairly gourmet.

On the other hand, they are a bit pricey (expect to spend about $10), and they are mostly greens.  Ok, the place is _called_ Mixt Greens, so that makes sense.  But you're eating this salad forever and ever trying to eat all the greens.  I like a salad that's more about the stuff than the greens.  But, given the name, it's the focus of the place.  So I probably can't dock them for that.  Can I?

They have a frequent buyer card.  Buy 10 salads get one free.  My coworkers love this place and use their cards.  I've never gotten one.  I've eaten here a few times and gotten the vegetarian salad, that has tofu, soba noodles, edamame.  I like it quite a bit.  One of these days I'll do a make your own, but that will take a lot of planning in advance, because there's no way I could read all the options and make a decision while I'm waiting in their long but very fast-moving line.

I go to Mixt Greens whenever I want to treat myself to a yummy and healthy lunch. It is a bit more expensive than I would normally spend on lunch, but worth it for all the great, organic ingredients. I usually get the Dagwood salad, which is basically a grilled veggie salad, with a couple modifications. The line moves way quicker than you'd expect, mostly because of the phenomenal skillz of the friendly staff. Everyone there has been supernice, especially the awesome people at the cash-registers.
The other main plus for me is that there always seems to be excellent people-watching at Mixt Greens, and that happens to be one of my favorite pastimes.
The only real negative is the prices, but someday I will splurge that extra $4 and get the coriander-encrusted seared ahi tuna. mmmmm

Hello, Million Dollar Salad. How I love you.

Million Dollar Salad, can we be friends forever? I would do almost anything for the pleasure of your company. I will walk the eleventy blocks from my office. I will walk there in the rain (like I did today, and during Friday's monsoon), I will walk there in heels, I will walk there when I forget to put a belt on in the morning, and have to slyly (read: not sly at all) keep pulling my jeans up while I walk. I will always come for you, Million Dollar Salad. You are my precious. I love you like a strike beard.

Today's trip to Mixt Greens came at a bad time. It was slightly past noon (that's "go-time"), so I knew I was in for a long wait. The assembly line setup really works, and I was out of there with THREE salads (that's $3M worth of salad, folks) in under ten minutes.

The only kvetch I have are the bags. Oh, the bags. Why is it so hard to get a bag from you people? They gave me ONE BAG for three salads and three Izze's. The big ripped open halfway to my office. What the hell. GIVE ME TWO BAGS, YOU FUCKS. Seriously.

Good mix of salads and sandwiches.  This Mixt Greens gets super busy during lunch so either take an early or late lunch.  I do appreciate that all their ingredients come from local organic farmers but I only get a Mixt Green salad once in awhile.  I just can't justify paying $13 for a salad.  But it's a good salad.

TWELVE DOLLAR SALAD? Hold on....WHAT?! You ARE serious...okay

PROs:
*Quality food all the way
*Fresh, organic, healthy ingredients in a clean environment
*Lots to choose from for veggies or carnivores
*Amazing combinations that you can alter, or make your own from scratch choosing from a wide range of items.
*I got the "bachelor" which had steak, potatoes and green beans. It was all the yum of dinner with the light, refreshing after glow of salad.

CONs:
*Spendy, spendy, spendy (for salad)
*Long line, be prepared to wait 20 minutes to grab a salad to go from 11-3
*If you want to sit down, the ever-growing line will be smooshed behind you and you can barely hear the person across the table.

Since I've discovered this place, I don't want to eat anything else for lunch. Me and my co-workers sit and decifer the menu almost everyday for at least 30 mins cuz everything sounds so good.

I certainly don't mind the prices, especially since I get a big tub of organic, freshly prepared, gourmet-designed, yummy goodness that fills me up and makes me feel good. If healthy eating cost me 10 bucks, I call it a bargain. especially when it has meat so I get my proteins at the same time and don't feel like a leaf munching rabbit.

So... my goal is to try every salad on the menu, which now I find is easier said than done, since the menu changes seasonally. They even swap out the ingredients in the salads depending on whats in season.

Anyway, these are the ones's I've tried so far (in order):
Bachelor: 4/5 you'll like it if you like vinegarette (which I do)
Porkie (seasonal): 5/5  just a big bowl of autumnish yumminess
Madision: 5/5  it's a summery light salad with a tangy kick from the grain mustard dressing. It makes me think of summer in the hamptons
Cobb: 3/5 basic cobb. the bacon here is really good tho. not that greasy hard stuff you usually get
Fusion: 2/5 I had the tuna with it. it was ooookkaayy. good for a salad, mediocore for mixt standards. tuna was good, but very small.....:(
cowboy: 5/5 I was skeptical about this one since I don't like creamy dressings, but don't be fooled, this blue cheese is not like the usual stuff you get. it has a spicy kick on the end. the chicken is so tender.
Grove: 4/5 pretty good! a good light salad for a summer's day

sandwiches:
Disco: 3/5 good but not out of this world
Sonoma: 5/5 so perfectly blended tastes! if you like portabello mushrooms with balsamic, you must try this. it's on acme bread!!

oh prepare to wait in line if you go between 11.45-1.30. and beware of the asian man who only fills up half the tub...

Is it me or the clientele here really that shallow?  Speaks for the food since salads aren't exactly voluptuous either.

This place is all about pretentiousness.  Salad "barristas" wearing a full chef outfit to put all the veggies and precooked meat together, and then charge you 13-15 bucks for rabbit food with an accidental slice of meat in case you are still hungry.  Give me a break ... a salad chef?  This makes burger flippers, what, Thomas F_ing Keller?  I will rather be at Plutos or Foccacia.

This place is all about the worst of San Francisco: shallow, snobbiness, overpriced, arrogance.

I have to leave off 2 stars because I may go broke from eating here every day. I am fine with $11 for a salad with seared ahi tuna, but I am not so cool with paying the same for a salad with chicken.

That aside, I am addicted to this place. Oscar, the cashier, knows me by name and is super-friendly. The salads are really delicious and inventive. I am partial to the Fusion (with ahi), but also enjoy a Madison (with chicken) from time to time. It is very crowded at lunch, so don't bother if you only have 10 minutes to spare.
