Before I came to Kate, I hadn't cut my hair in 13 months as part of my New Year's resolution so you know she had her work cut out for her. I told her to do anything she wanted and I got an amazing haircut. It's been almost 3 months since and it still looks great- people comment on it daily. The shop is small in a cute way and feels homey. The staff is the funny, gossipy kid you want to be your friend. My friend accidently left a bag of gourmet chocolates there and nobody had eaten them when we came back to pick them up. That wouldn't happen at my job! I make it to NYC twice a year and you can bet I'll be there getting my hair did.

KATE...shes sweet, personable, creative, amazing!!
she KNOWS what shes doing, im an extremely pickyyyy person when it comes to my hair, because i have good hair and i know this because i do take care of it, so when its time for a cut, i really have to research!...and i did, and im glad i came here
thanks kate!!..i'll see you soon!
Mom always told me that we ladies should spend our hard earned money on a few special things: bras and shoes. Since I wear flip-flops full stop, I've traded the shoes out for hair- and thanks to KIM I am now rocking one hell of a good haircut & colour. It was long and scraggly. By the time I got in there it was a mess. The shade was all wrong. It had been some time since I'd had my do done.
Then i met KIM. She's the new one at the shop, and I'm so glad I'm in with her on the ground floor before word gets out and she's too busy!
I got a really cute haircut and Kim is a listener, she got me! I came in and she saw that I needed help but was super nice about it. Totally sorted me out.
She also loved my hair long and gave me a great cut to make it better while keeping the length. Come on, who does that?
The place is small and is much like Glam-O-Rama in SF, one of my old haunts, so it's comfy.
You know who else I like? Nathan. What a keeper.

I had my hair cut with Kim after reading some great reviews here and I've never been so pleased (or looked so cute!).
The haircut was a bit of a one-off - I've had massive wavy long hair for years and years and had people yelling at me whenever I considered getting the chop. My hair was a separate thing on the back of my head - it had a personality all of its own and while it was amazing as a head of hair it just did nothing for me. I decided that after years of wimping out last minute that this holiday I was going to come back to England with short hair.
I found Seagull on Yelp, and while I was nervous about going someonewhere completely new, the reviews seemed to say that it had everything I wanted - staff that listened, an intimate, friendly atmosphere and people leaving with cuts that weren't just templated from person to person. My hair was completely unmanageable, and I needed someone who could work wth it rather than give me a standard cut and expect it to work.
Kim listened to what I wanted from the beginning, and not once did she try to talk me out of having all the length off at once (friends have left with half-hearted mid-length cuts when they wanted such a drastic change from salons at home). She got an exact picture of what I wanted from my nervous babble, and made me feel incredibly calm throughout the whole thing. I hadn't worn make up because I felt certain that cutting off my hair would make me bawl, but nothing came. If you are at all nervous, then Kim is a great choice - she's so serene.
Kim talked to me throughout about the touches she was adding, and she had such a delicate and precise way of cutting that I felt certain that I would leave with exactly what I wanted. I've never been more pleased, and it even looks cute now that it's growing out, which is surely the sign of a great hairdresser! I've never received so many compliments about my hair!
I've just got to find somewhere this side of the Atlantic that can recreate it now...Suggestions, anyone?
So it's been a few months since I got my haircut with Kim... I haven't gone back yet, as I've been super busy and tinkering with the idea of letting it grow out a bit.
I still haven't decided, but I will say, that it's growing out quite nicely.
Usually, I'm pretty anal about my hair and like to get it trimmed every 3-4 weeks, but I'm so pleased with how it's growing--I just don't care.
Also, people are STILL coming up to me and giving me compliments!!! I love it, such a confidence booster, but I know KIM is the 'style queen' behind this 'do! "where did you go, who cut your hair, do you have her contact info, it's so chic, etc." Several people have even asked me if it's a wig!? Sounds a bit odd, but I see it as a compliment-it's because it looks perfect all the time. I hardly have to style it--just wake up 'n go!
So I say to all of you, without hesitation... go see KIM, she'll do you right, I swear!
Hmm.. I do need to get my color done again... Calling Seagull NOW!

I changed my original rating of Seagull, giving it 4 stars for the amazing business parctices.
I got my hair fixed as much as possible at the same ol' place in my neighborhood I always go to (had to tell the lady my sister was visiting and insisted on cutting my hair).
The same night the owner of Seagull contacted me via Yelp, offering to get my hair fixed by a different stylist or refund my money. Since my hair was already too short by then for any additional kind of fixing, I could not accept it .
The owner confirmed they would give me a full refund.
This is as close to "satisfaction guarantee" as it gets.
As for the hair... it'll grow back, right?

While I would typically say that one visit does not a review make, when said visit leaves my wallet $120+ lighter, I feel I have the basis for the formation of an opinion.
I thought my haircut was...fine. And that's great -- if all I was looking for were "fine."
With the raves, reviews, and five-star average, however, I kind of expected to walk out of that place shitting rainbows and skittles while the floor turned to glitter and light-up "Billie Jean"-style sidewalk squares.
And...I didn't.
My hairstylist was very knowledgeable and even gave me hair-homework (wherein she suggested products for me, for which I'm actually VERY grateful because I had not the slightest clue how to deal with my super-sensitive skin/scalp + fine hair combo), and the haircut was "fine," but still....
I love the location and its convenience, and the place is very cute and hip. However, I got the feeling upon walking in that I was majorly out of place...in that I was not "hip" enough to be there. And while I AM admittedly corporate, a buck is a buck is a buck, right? AND it's not like I was wearing my business casual or anything. So I shouldn't have felt out of place when they were all being chatty around me?
I guess this is where people say "your expectations were too high." And they very well may have been, but if I'm spending more than $100 on a haircut, I would probably...go back to Rachel at Ted Gibson. Or I could just go back to Cheetah Top (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) and have enough left over for a new pedi. :)
Recommended, but just...not recommended for me.

I waited a whole month to write my review for Seagull, and specifically for Kate, because sometimes a haircut looks great that day, a week after, etc., but falls apart around a month. Not the case with my haircut! It looks as good, if not better, than the day I got it. I also just got my bangs trimmed (free bang trimming with every haircut) and they look spectacular, too.
I cannot say enough good things about this salon. Everyone is friendly, the atmosphere is homey and wonderful, and the hours are extremely accomodating to a busy schedule.
Now specifically on Kate: AMAZING! she is just wonderful. She really took time to assess my hair and give me the best cut for my face shape and profession. I can't imagine going to another stylist now that i have found her!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This review is waaaay overdue. I got my haircut done in May by Kate. She is sooo chill, which I think is really great.
When I first walked into the store with my office attire on, I started questioning what I got myself into, here's Kate in her sequined tank and hot shorts on getting ready to cut my hair. I was an hour early to my appt., which totally surprised the crap outta her, haha.
I havent gotten my hair cut in like...8 years, and so I wanted a drastic change. Kate pretty much read my mind when she said that she would prefer me to get up in the morning and go--instead of spending an hour doing my hair.
She chopped my hair off and styled it, and I was sooo speechless at my shoooort hair, but she was right..as I walked out the door she told me that "a big change can be a good thing" (or something to that extent).
I loove my short hair now, and I dont think I'll be going back to long hair any time soon. =) Everyone has commented on how awesome my hair looks, and how cute I look in it. yay! It's a bit pricey, but it's all worth it in the end, I'll definitely go back once I decide that I want another style, I'm sure Kate will read my mind again. ;P

I will say it is expensive but it's worth it. I went to Kate and she was more of an artist than anything which I love and took her time and really analyzed my hair, and her personality rocked too. A month later and it's still lookin good.

So, I also hate getting my hair cut as it never turns out good, or the stylist is never confident in what they are doing...... UNTIL NOW!!
I made an appointment with Kate, and after searching for the last 5 years for a good stylist, know that $85 bucks is a totally reasonable price, and after reading that she has experience in men's grooming was totally excited.
From the moment we walked in I had a good feeling. The salon is super cute, as are the staff (which always adds to the experience). When I sat down with Kate, she knew exactly what I was talking about and knew exactly what I wanted. Then came her mad skills. The woman knows how to handle a pair of scissors and a razor (Thank God FINALLY)!! How many salons have I been to where the stylist looks like they are afraid to hold a pair of scissors. She did exactly what she said she would do, and she gave me the most satisfying hair cut I have had in years!!!! MWAH!!! Kate checks, rechecks and makes sure the cut is super before letting you leave, and there was none of that "oh my god where is my hat" styling... totally satisfied...
What was an added bonus was that Kate showed me some product to use, but never tried to force an up-sell (though I am kicking myself for not getting that product now). She was cheerful, friendly, extremely talented, and totally my new stylist!!
Kate also cut my boyfriends hair and did an AMAZING job too... super happy!!
Oh, and one last thing... i entered the salon tired and exhausted after a crazy week, and Kate just bumped up the energy and I left feeling totally renewed, left loving the hair cut (I don't have that post hair cut blues that I always get), and knowing that I have finally found my salon and stylist!!
CHECK OUT THIS SALON!!!

This place was my first official Yelp discovery and it is why I am here now. About a month ago I was craving a big hair makeover. After a bit of research I came across the outpouring of 5 star reviews for this place. All the reviews were down to earth and informative. So I picked up the phone and within a day I had an appointment with Kate (who everyone raved about). There was even a Yelper who said Kate was great at short flirty haircuts which was exactly what i wanted. This cozy West Village you-just-want-to hang salon is a complete gem.

So almost immediately after I wrote my original review, Seagull Haircutters contacted me in the form(s) of the manager, and Shaun, the stylist.
They were VERY pleasant, and showed what I believed to be true concern and sadness that I had a bad experience there.
They offered to have me come back in and see if they could fix my hair. Unfortunately, my hair is now just too short to do that, so they then offered to refund my money...
...yep, that's right, refund my money. All $150 of it.
They were so classy and pleasant about the whole thing. (Especially since having read through reviews of other places it seems like sometimes reviewers get a lot of flack from the people of the place they gave a poor review.)
Anyway, like I said, they were so genuinely nice and handled the whole thing so well that I'm changing my review score to reflect that.
Regardless that my hair cut didn't work out, they're clearly a very professional salon that cares about their clients.

Let me start off by saying that I hate, hate hate getting my haircut. It stresses me out so I usually play it safe and wait until it has to be cut for me to make an appointment. But after seeing Seagull consistently on the home page and reading all of the five-star reviews, I decided to take the plunge and make an appointment with Shaun.
I walked in the salon and the combination of great reviews and Shaun's "we've known each other forever" demeanor allowed me to feel mellow and trusting. I gave a description of what I wanted, asked him for his feedback and then gave him permission to do what he felt would look good on me.
The result? I got a style that accomplished the feeling I described (sexy, not boring, not "perfect") which looked really good on me. Well, what I actually said when I saw the final result was that it's "ridiculously gorgeous."
I'm pretty happy that I wasn't stressed out, that Shaun was really nice, and that I got a really awesome haircut and a stylist that I plan on seeing more than twice a year. Yay Shaun and yay Seagull!

I have been going to Shaun for two and a half years, and I would never go anywhere else. He always gives me fantastic cut and color, and I trust his judgment completely. Everyone in the salon is down-to-earth with a great sense of humor. I always come out of there feeling great because I look good, and I always feel like I just went through a hugely helpful therapy session. If Shaun wasn't available, I would go to anyone else there, too, because all of the work I have seen come out of there is great. I am constantly recommending Seagull to everyone I know.

The best haircut ever. I am in NYC for a couple days and decided, totally last minute, that I must get a haircut before I leave. In two days. I recall hearing about Seagull salon and get on Yelp to verify that it's the right place...Yep, 5-star rated, that's the one. So, with 1 day notice, I'm able to book with Kim. On one hand I'm nervous that it's so easy to get an appointment, but on the other, I'm really thankful, after all, I want my hair cut NOW! I've visited so many salons in SF and been disappointed so many times; even my staple/"reliable" salon left me with half-assed cut on my last visit, resulting in a 2+ month hiatus from stylists of any sort. Anyways, back to Seagull, which is wonderful. When I walked in, I immediately loved the salon itself and the music put me in a super good mood (MIA! Peaches! Ratatat! The list goes on and on).
Johanna at the front desk is very sweet and accommodating, she even got me an iced mocha during my cut. As for the cut itself, Kim is a genius. I was nervous to tell her that I wanted to keep my hair long. I've been conditioned to assume that every stylist hates long hair (why do they always want to chop it off?) so I get anxiety saying that I want a new cut but want to sacrifice the minimal amount of length. Much to my pleasant surprise, Kim agreed with me and said she actually liked my hair long! She pulled it forward and told me she liked where it was parted and how it looks pulled forward but that she'd be able to reshape it so it would have the *style* it was so desperately lacking.
Kim got to work and produced exactly what she promised, a beautiful, sleek cut that got rid of a lot of my damaged ends but didn't take off tons of length. During the cut we talked a great deal about color and by the end of the cut I really didn't want to leave without having Kim implement some of the great ideas she had. Though I hadn't specified I'd want it when I made the appointment, Kim and Johanna consulted and magically worked me in for a last minute color as well! I couldn't be more pleased with the results.
I hope that I can get back to NYC regularly to see Kim because she & Seagull have spoiled me!

Absolutely amazing.
Shaun took my boring, chest length blond hair and gave me a chic, cool-ly highlighted textured bob, BEFORE every celebrity and her mother was sporting it in US Weekly.
But that wasn't what impressed me the most. While I was getting my highlights done, the power went out - an unavoidable occurrence in a building that is as old as Seagull. The building's super was out in New Jersey and couldn't come in to help them get to the fuse box. So Shaun ran to his apartment and got a portable lamp, finished my highlights in that minimal lighting, and even offered to take me up to his apartment so that I could see the color in better lighting.
Of course, he couldn't cut my hair with no light - so he came in, on his day off, the next day to cut my hair - for free. Absolutely amazing. Maybe it is more expensive than some other places, but it is also less expensive than the really high end - Ted Gibson, Prive, etc. - salons, and you get the most amazing service ever.
I'm not one to spend a pretty dollar on getting a haircut - my hair grows super fast so I need to get it cut often - but I have to say that the first time I stepped into Seagull and Kate was finished with me, I knew I'd be coming back for as long as I lived in the city.
Kate is fantastic. She's fast, confident, and imaginative but tailors her creativity to suit each client's individual comfort zone. You go to her when you wanna experiment, and you go to her when you want something classy and just a little bit badass and "edgy." Nothing boring about Kate or the haircuts she gives. I just love how adventurous and "go for it" she is but at the same time, she's incredibly aesthetically-minded and gives you something that is delightfully good looking.
She gave me these bangs that suit my face and personality to a tee, and it was so good, it changed the way I look in my favorite outfits. Best part about Kate is that she's so freakin confident and self-assured you can trust her with anything. And when it comes to something like hair, we women wouldn't have it any other way.

I paid way too much for this haircut; almost to the point of embarrassment but I feel about it the way I feel about my glasses: I always have them on, why not spend more, right?
Anyway, it was worth it since Kim, who is the newest stylist here, gave me a really cute haircut and actually listened to me when I told her that I wanted fun, un-conservative, un-square hair. I've gotten a few cuts where people do not listen to me because I don't dress all hipster and assume that I want boring hair. I don't. I like bedhead, razor cuts, and curls of insanity. Kim gave me exactly that. She also gave me a cut that is VERY low maintenance, did not push products on me and didn't give me any weird guilt trips about my clearly overgrown jacked hair.
The salon is small and very cute and not at all overly modern. It reminds me a bit of Glam-O-Rama in San Francisco. It's not the kind of place where they offer you champagne or whatever when you come in but the people working were very, very nice, so nice that I was taken aback as I am used to just a little bit of attitude when I go to trendy hair places and this was totally not the case here.
I've always made fun of those people who travelled to other states to get their hair done but I fear after such a positive experience here, I may have to turn into one of those assholes. It's definitely a treat, and I'll have to skip a few nights of karaoke to afford it, but like my girl Cybill Shepherd says: I'm worth it!

This is such a fantastic salon - Shaun is of the 'tea and sympathy' breed of hairdressers who makes you feel comfortable straightaway and doesn't try and bullsh*t you or try and convince you to do anything you aren't ready for.
He genuinely wants you to leave the salon happy with your hair and he spends a good 5-10 minutes talking with you about your hair, finding any natural waves/kinks in your hair and talking through what he suggests. Even while he is cutting your hair he'll check with you a few times and ask 'How am I doing?' and if you want him to chop a little more off here or there or make a piece a little more wispy he is more than happy to oblige. So nice compared to robotic hairdressers who make you feel like you are on a conveyor belt!
Sure maybe $150 is a lot for a haircut - but many of us wouldn't blink to spend that on a pair of jeans or shoes - and we have to wear our hair every day! Getting a cool cut here that you love is money well spent!
I really couldn't recommend this place more - if you are new to the city or looking to swap hairdressers, book in an appointment here and start feeling the love for yourself!

ive been getting shitty boring haircuts since i came to new york- ugh i was so sick of my hair!!
when i came to seagull i had to be carried in by EMS- thats what kind of hair emergency i was having. And me off to europe in a week to meet the boyfriends mum!
i gave kim a convoluted disjointed description of how i thought i wanted my hair, and luckily she knew what i meant being that she is a hair psychic. the most important thing for me was that i have a short androgynous cut that leaned toward the feminine and was sexy and still rockin cause as told her- i may be almost 40, but im not dead yet! actually that was ALL that i said out of the preceding sentence- the rest was just hand motions and bad hair stories and ended with a long sigh and an 'ugh i dont know what i want!'
oh yeah, and i told her that i was willing to spend ZERO time on my hair, just put some gel in and run.
well for once someone understood and didnt leave it too long or give me a typical bob. i have wavy to curly hair and i tried the curly places and was not impressed. kim did a great job! its cute as hell, short but not too boyish, and i can wake up and look cute in a grungy sleepy way- hey at least in the ten minutes it takes me to get in the shower i know im covered! and i do spend no time at all on my hair and it looks cool. thats the beauty of a good cut. thanks kim, and so nice to find a totally non-pretentious, comfortable salon with no bullshit great haircuts!

Found this place through yelp and I wasnt disappointed. Had an appointment with Luke, who was great... it was apparent that he absolutely loves what he does and that's really important to me. I usually cut my own hair because I have alot of it and it's very forgiving, but I decided to let someone else do it for once. I wanted some major reshaping and thinning out. Luke did an awesome job... my hair looked great and I'm very happy with it. A little on the pricey side, but if I'm going to pay anyone to touch my hair and do major work on it, im not exactly trying to go to supercuts... the extra $ was worth the fear of someone else butchering my hair... which, come to think of it, is the exact reason why i stopped getting my hair done and doing it myself...

It's been awhile since I've gotten my hair cut here (about a year ago), so you can take this review for what you will.
Here's why I'm giving this place three stars:
The first time I went here, my haircut was fantastic. Short hair is hard to cut, so props to Shaun.
The second time, however, my haircut didn't turn out so great. I don't know if he was having an off day or what, but my hair turned out pretty badly.
Shaun is a great guy, and the place is super cute and has a great vibe, but I stopped going after the second cut. It's so hard to find a place that consistently delivers great cuts, even in nyc.

How many reviews does it take to qualify somebody as a stalker/crazy fan? This is only my second one (first one below) for Seagull so I think I'm alright.
So I'm brunching in Jersey at the brother in laws' country club on Easter (that's how gansta I get) and my hair is bugging me. I'm the type of dude that once the hair has been in my eyes for a couple weeks and really starts to obstruct my vision, then I get it cut. Anyway, I tried making an appointment a couple days earlier but Luke, my regular scissor-hands was out of town and everybody else was booked. Amazingly though, Seagull was open on Easter and able to squeeze me in. Kate wasn't available so Shaun offered to work his magic. Oh, but what magic it was...
I wasn't sure if I was ready/worthy to meet The Oracle (Shaun) but opportunity was a knocking. He was/is fricking awesome. We started talking about moms, real estate, foreign investment, the mortgage crisis (you know typical salon gossip) and next thing you know my hair looks great. I believe this is a personal best/high-score/gold star sticker next to my name kind of cut. It even looks great without any goop in it after getting home and washing out the stragglers.
I love my hair so much that I started a blog:
letmetellyouaboutmyhair.madeyoulook.blogspot.wordp ress dot com
Check back hourly for updates.
If my hair could talk, I mean if my hair could talk so that other people besides me could hear it, it would thank me as well as admonish me for not seeing Shaun earlier. My hair can be mean sometimes. Tough love I guess.
So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Are you ready to be your personal best? If so, make an appointment with Shaun.
Not to overhype it or anything....

I couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience. I went to Seagull with a mane of blond hair that I wanted chopped off as well as growing apprehension. I hadn't had short hair in 13 years. The second I walked in, however, the nervousness went away; the staff was attentive, friendly, and Shaun was amazing. He walked me through the haircut and worked with me to get the look I was shooting for. The cut looks great, the experience wonderful. I'm not going anywhere else with my hair. --Highly recommend.

I live in Jersey and have always wanted to splurge a bit and get my hair cut in the city. I have wavy hair and was searching on-line for places that cut curly hair. Seagull had RAVING reviews, so I decided to try it. I got an appointment with Luke - it was a wonderful experience - well worth the trip!!!! The salon itself is welcoming , with its hip renovations! As I entered I was greeted with a friendly hello by everyone there. I walked to the reception desk and was warmly greeted by Luke. As he listened to what I wanted and what my frustrations were with my current style, I quickly felt that I could trust him, despite my reluctance to cut my hair. Luke then gave suggestions based on my comments. The products smelled great - the shampoo was a treat in and of itself, and as he cut my hair, he was incredibly warm and kind. AND the end result.....I ABSOLUTELY love my new do!!! I feel like a new person - my husband even said, "It was worth every cent!" :) Thanks, Luke!! :)

Although I was delighted to move to the East Coast from the Twin Cities, I found myself desperately missing the salon I had frequented since college. However, I have found an even better replacement: Seagull. I LOVE Luke and I constantly get compliments on my hair everywhere I go. I like the small, cozy atmosphere and having a salon experience that doesn't make me feel like I'm part of an assembly line. If Seagull were a person, I would want to have his/her babies, not only to show my love, but because I want babies with fabulous hair who can discuss indie rock just as easily as they can discuss US Weekly.

I found Seagull on Yelp and made an appointment about 5 days in advance for this past weekend. I've had a seven year relationship with my previous stylist, but I was ready for a change. Based on the reviews I chose Kate to cut my hair and it's one of the best haircuts I've ever had. I went it with no firm idea of what I wanted, except that it had to be different and a little funky/fun. I gave Kate a vague idea of the length I'd be comfortable with and let her get to work. She had some great suggestions about my bangs and worked with my baby fine hair for a cut that has style and body. I have had tons of complements so far!
Kate was awesome - so funny and so nice. I've never had so much fun getting my hair cut. She had my girlfriend and I entertained the entire time we were there. The space is small, hip and comfortable. I'll go back as soon as I need a trim or new style.
Price: $114 and worth every penny!
Pros: awesome staff, free bang trims after your cut, good music
Cons: None, though it's probably not for everyone. If you want a cookie cutter haircut you might be better off somewhere else.

i wasn't going to write a review for this place but today i tried to wear my hair down and realized i have the ugliest haircut. i felt i needed to let people know about my experience with seagull.
i just moved to town and read a bunch of raving reviews. unfortunately, i paid $100+ for a bad haircut from kate, a hairdresser with a "too cool for school" attitude and B.O.
about the experience...i was running about 20 min late (i was lost) so i called ahead and told them. they were totally cool on the phone but as soon as i got there i got attitude about it from kate. i should've left right then and there, but i was desperate for a haircut. i told her i just needed my hair shaped up and since i have thick, wavy hair we should keep the layers long. she insisted that shorter layers would look better. trusting her judgment, i said let's go for it. throughout the cut she made comments about how i needed to have a less conservative haircut, blah blah blah. she was subtly condescending.
honestly, if the haircut rocked, i wouldn't care but the cut is HORRIBLE. my hair has a diamond shape - a short layer of hair all the way around which puffs up, then all the hair right under it that hangs straight down. who the hell cuts only one layer? it's weird. it's ugly.
oh, yeah. i was growing out my bangs...she suggested she shape them up a bit. now i have some short bangs and some long bangs. that "shaping" just added another 6 months more to growing them out.
the salon itself is kinda rickety and "run down" looking. i guess i just expect more from a salon that charges up to $150 for a haircut. if you want a "salon" experience, this is not the place for you. for that matter if you want a good haircut don't go to kate.
UPDATE: Shaun, co-owner, wrote me an email asking if there's anything he could do to fix the situation. I think that's awesome customer service.

I have been going to Seagull for over a year now and my hair looks more fabulous with each visit. Kate consistently gives me great styles and awesome color. I get compliments on my hair daily from random people about how great my cut is, Kate knows what works, she is AMAZING!!
Salons in NYC have a tendency to be obnoxious but the vibe at Seagull is always chill, everyone is always friendly. The overall experience is superfun.
SEAGULL = SPECTACULAR HAIR!

I've been seeing the same hairdresser in San Francisco since I was about seven years old. He cuts my hair, my mom's hair, three of my aunties' hair, my grandmother's hair... you get the picture. Naturally, I've become rather paranoid about who handles my hair, other than him. I took my mom's suggestion about going to see a new hairdresser in Oakland Chinatown because it was cheaper ($20, as compared to $100 -- I should have known better). Anyways, I came to New York for college with absolutely butchered hair, a terrible cut, and no clue where to go to get it fixed.
Shaun might actually have magic powers. Seriously. One hour after sitting in his chair, my thick, ridiculously dry, wavy hair turned into this amazing mane of wonder. I'm not even kidding. Like a lot of other reviewers, I gave him rather vague directions -- as in, "Please, just anything better than this." I was absolutely thrilled with the cut I walked out with -- a shoulder length cut that bore absolutely no semblance to what my hair had previously looked like. My hair actually looked healthy, and not like black straw. I know it's New York City, and it's not easy to find good and relatively affordable places to get a good haircut -- this is one of them. Absolutely will not go anywhere else now. Thanks so much Shaun.
Oh, and as a completely random side note, I asked Shaun for suggestions for a good neighborhood cafe to study. He suggested Cafe Angelique, about a block or two away. I went in, sat down, and immediately got compliments on my hair... and even got asked out by a cute waiter. I'm not even kidding. It was probably the hair.
