10/11/2008$8-9 chicken sandos. decent, but the old gas station across the street has better food. here the service lacks, but you go there to chill on a nice day and watch the bikes go by. lots to see and great place to chill when it's warm. back in the day, it used to have the old toadstools....

10/11/2008This place is YUMMY!!! And the people are friendly. I like that I walk in and see families there and often times (yes, I go there a lot) I see regulars. The food is fresh, made and presented well. Nothing fancy, just some good down-home japanese food!

10/11/2008barebones cheapo chairs/tables. minimal deco. flyers on walls showings offerings. (english in small print). food came out fast. place nearly packed.
entrees:mandarin sauce spareribs(5.50) beef tendon nodle(5.50) shanghai rice cake(5.50) tofu w/bean sauce (5.50) tofu skin w/ chives(5.50) house soup(comped) stinky tofu (3.95?)
-spareribs: very thick meat with nice sweet sauce. a winner!
-beef tendon noodle: less than firm commercial thick round noodles and many small pieces of almost lean tender tendons. not that great but ok for the value.
-comped soup: missed out on the hot & sour soup. got mixed veggie soup. pretty tasty (from carrots).
-stinky tofu: really stinky. fried crispy with accompanying sauce that lacked pizaaz. this stinker is a winner.
-shanghai rice cakes: very tender and sweet tasting. not my favorite but tasted ok.
-bean curd w/brown sauce: soft tofu niccly sauteed with sauce and black mushrooms. a different kind of veggie and protein. very good.
-dried tofu skins w/ chives: this will probably grow on me. tasted ok.

10/11/2008I completely agree with the first two votes! All the employees are the same somehow...can't quite put my finger on it. It just seems they don't have much of a personality, which isn't very good for the business given that its supposed to be customer oriented. Just sayin'!
I went in one day to make a purchase and I saw that there were more employees, at least 6, than there were customers. Not one person offered help. They were all grouped around talking. I had to finally ask for help and then they had the nerve to try to upsale something when they almost didn't make a sale at all. My guess is that the commission rates aren't high at that store compared to others in the area.
What's even worse is that what I bought wasn't the right item after all so I took it back about an hour later and the guy wouldn't give me my money back...the same guy that helped me in the first place. Instead he gave me store credit. Probably hoping that I will go back there for his sales to go up.

10/11/2008Run...don't even think about this matchmaking company! I agree with several other reviewers that this service is not worth the money. A friend of mine joined table for six last year and did not have a great experience. She told me that she was set up on several dates with men much older then her. In fact, half the time, the men didn't even show up but it counted anyway towards your 12. Being the optimistic person that I am, I thought it was worth investigating. I wish I hadn't waisted 2 hours of my time.
FIrst, you walk into the office on Geary and your "agent" greets you. I had a man who was cheezy and proceeded to tell me that I wasn't what he expected. WHat the hell does that mean. Then he proceeded to play mind games with me and ask me questions about my life and dating. I got the sense that this was all a sales tactic to prey on insecure women. It was frankly, worse than a used car salesman. He actually had the nerve to talk about my biological clock during the interview. I was appalled. I think he was trying to make me feel desperate. He also told me several times that he makes a lot of money and really enjoys matching people up and making people happy. Please! Don't patronize us. And really, if you made a lot of money, you would not be sitting in a small office where bamboo screens divide you from 3 other loud mouth women.
The final process was a joke. When I continued to ask him how much the service was, he finally picked up a laminated piece of paper from his desk which was rightside down and slipped it in front of my face. Before he revealed the price, he did tell me that he was going to "approve" me for membership and he actually wrote on my application, "approve". I wanted to laugh out loud. Believe me, this was a laughable situation. Another sales tactic to make you feel important and that you successfully made it into their exclusive club. Please! If you have money and a pulse, you are in! He then turned over the laminated piece of paper. When I saw the price of $2995, I asked why it was so expensive, especially given the fact that you pay for all of the activities separately. He became defensive and actually insulted me. Then he acknowledged that there are bad reviews about table for six on the internet but those are written by people who cannot afford the service. At that point, I thanked him for his time and walked out the door.
I agree with the other reviewer below who nicely summed up her questioning of the process. Yes, you have 14K members but which one's are active and if you have so many members, who the hell is actually getting successfully set up? Please do not waist your hard earned money on this agency. Go out and enjoy life and you will meet someone in the process!

Updated - 10/11/2008On my second visit, I had a friend order me a Chicago Dog and New York dog.
The Chicago comes with mustard, relish, pickle spears, tomatoes, white onions, and peppers.
The New York has some red sauce with onions.
They were both pretty good.
The buns were toasty warm and held in everything well.
The dogs were grilled, had good "snap" to them, and tasted great.
When it comes to dogs though, I'm pretty much a purist.
At the minimum I'm eating them plain on the bun...
At the maximum it's mustard and relish.
Nothing went wrong with my order this time.
Good job.
Still not ordering breakfast again...
Maybe later.

10/11/2008i just moved back to SF and have been on a search for yoga with the right balance of spirituality and quirkiness without getting too out there. plus, i really prefer a vinyasa flow practice. after some so-so experiences with various yoga tree studios, i was so stoked to discover laughing lotus. first of all the studio is so charming. a little orange house in the mission. the yoga room itself is very spacious. the classes are full but you are not pack in like sardines. plus, there is a lounge area for tea and cookies like my old studio in DC. so far, i have been two classes, including midnight yoga which was amazing. kate lead a really cool flow class with the transition between poses that were very interesting and challenging. (note this class assumes level 2 knowledge). AND the live drum and bass set was so awesome. it will be hard to do yoga without live music now. laughing lotus is my new fav yoga place!

10/11/2008It has been a really long time since I walked into a bar and totally didn't feel like the odd mexican out, It's mainly my fault, I am highly sensitive and overly self conscious, but for what ever reason, McTeague's left me feeling happy, confident and ready to take on Godzilla in a no holds bar, last one standing, cage match.
The ladies there last night was very attractive, even the not so attractive ladies has personality for days, so in turn, made them attractive (did I cover my ass on that one?) Everyone there was handsome. I didn't have to get shit faced to enjoy myself. AND! A McCallan 12yr whiskey was $8.00! I think this has been the cheapest place I have had this... I spent $21.00 or so somewhere in the city for the same drink. I took 1 star away because the last whiskey i ordered wasn't whiskey at all, but vodka... but I guess it was ok since i was driving anyways. I Really enjoyed this place, and the company I was with.

10/11/2008OK, yeah, it is way janky (shopping carts for a clothing store?) and the security kinda treats you like you're a criminal and cannot be trusted. I mean, I really have to leave my coffee at the door? For a ROSS? Lame. Like I'm gonna bilk a ROSS...come on
However, it is a well-known fact that you need endless amounts of patience and need to be looking for nothing specific when you waltz in there. However, check it out...
What I needed (and risked complete disappointment upon looking):
brown pumps
brown sweater coat
brown purse (see a theme? I have too much black...)
black skirt (not to wear with the brown...give me some credit)
What I bought:
brown pumps
brown sweater coat
black skirt
(Three out of four ain't bad for a Ross, no?)
What I paid: under $50
Hey, we're in a recession now fools...gotta be parsimonious every once in a while

10/11/2008This is a great service. Ioanna saved us time and money! She did all things we really didn't have time to do: she found a vehicle that fitted our criteria, she test drove it and had it checked over, she arranged for any work that needed doing to be done, she arranged for the interior to be fitted with crates so that we could use the van on the day she delivered it. The entire bill was well within budget including her fee!
Not only did she do all that time consuming stuff, she she introduced us to a mechanic that is open on Saturdays and Sundays...invaluable to a small business! I would never have been able to negotiate the minefield of van sales people, mechanics and DMV without her help.
I would not hesitate to recommend this service.

10/11/2008We had a delicious meal here last night.
Appetizers:
Poached Japanese octopus with watermelon, radishes, and mint. This was my favorite dish. Strong flavor, perfect texture.
Pear tortelli with cheese sauce.
Entrees:
Salmon with summer squash. Crisp exterior, flaky interior. Perfect.
Duck with potatoes au gratin. I didn't try any, but my companion seemed to enjoy it.
Dessert:
Chocolate crepe with vanilla cream. The dessert menu was uninspiring and this dessert was fine, but nothing to write home about.
The service was courteous and very attentive.

10/11/2008I'm a big fan of the Mongolian Beef and the Fish and Chips. This may be the best stand at EPM. Fast and reasonably priced.
Concord, CA
10/11/2008Stopped here as I couldnt drive no-mo. It is close enough to most attractions in the Bay Area and I used to live in Concord so it seemed fitting. Was to play golf early the next morning in Vallejo and thats maybe a 15 mile trip. The hotel gave me a pretty good rate as a walk-in and I stayed 2 nights to soak in all the wonderment of Concord and the hotels amenities.
Had dinner and drinks at the hotel restaurant. Nothing special but convenient as all get outta here. Butternut raviolis in a nice cram sauce with many Jack/Cokes. A local singer/songwriter on guitar crooned the small crowd with classic hits.
Just to confirm others reviews, there are several choices for entertainment and food within walking distance.
Concord is your everyday suburban city with strip malls on every block along with more fast food places than you can count. Its a shame that its overrun with chainstore everything and you really have no choice but to patronize them unless you live there and know the places regulars go.

10/11/2008I was visiting my parents for the weekend in San Rafael and decided to pamper myself. I got an amazing manicure and pedicure! I do not give a lot of 5 stars, but this place is terrific! Judy is so sweet. She takes her time and doesn't rush like other places. I was really happy with my finger nails and toes! My cuticles looked awesome and the polish lasted forever! I was especially impressed with how clean and sanitary she was. Sadly, that's kind of rare these days. I would definitely go back. The owner, Mahin seemed really nice as well and maybe next time I'll try some of their other services.

Updated - 10/11/2008Just posting that this location closed on 9/10/08. We went there last night and saw notices on the door of the establishment closing down. Pretty dissappointing since I have some Gift Cards that I really want to use. I believe the SSF location is still around.

10/11/2008I'd actually been trying to look up Ma's Cleaners, in the Richmond, when I stumbled on Mrs. Ma. I'm so glad I did--I saved so much money!
I took in 3 pairs of dress slacks I needed hemmed. It was just a simple hem, so nothing much to screw up. As people have said, communication remains simple but gets the job done. I tried on my pants behind her little sheet and she pinned me up. Ten minutes, in and out.
I paid $4 a pair--a slight increase apparently but no biggie. Pay in advance, cash only. Pick up the next day. Done.
There is one reason she doesn't get 5 stars. Since I went about two weeks ago, I've worn each pair of slacks and run them through the wash. I went to put on one pair yesterday and the hem in one of the legs had fallen out! All the thread is there but it's as if it just wasn't connected to the other side so well. And, since she doesn't speak much English, there's not much sense in going back to complain.
I will be back though. Can't beat the price and it's close to work. I just drop them off at lunch time. And, I'm gonna take my boy's jeans with me this time. Neither of us sew and he's cheap--he's resorted to staples as a hem!!! Yea, that's gonna stop!
Great find.

10/11/2008Three stars = A-OK.
That's right on according to my awesome family members and me.
The onion ring stack gets a whopping five stars; delicious onion rings
during every RR visit and they're served with fabulous dipping sauces.
The presentation of the rings is fun and intriguing. A lot of customer
gawking goes on when the stack makes its way to our table.
It is fun to watch people's reaction; eyes light up.
Steak fries are delicious as well.
We think the burgers are good; not absolutely outstanding,
not bad...good.
Some of them are a bit overpowering with specialty sauces.
One example is the peppercorn burger; the only flavor I truly tasted
was peppercorn. I felt the bacon & onion straws flavors were drowned
out too much.
Getting sauces served on the side might be a better option.
During the most recent visit, the handsome man got a "Five Alarm"
burger. He hoped the burger would knock his socks off with
hotness. Nope- his socks stayed on; not as hot as he'd hoped for.
Service is a hit or miss.
We've had some real service hits yet also doozey misses,
including a server completely forgetting to put our order in...
oh, oh...not cool.
Not a destination burger joint for us, yet it's an A-OK place for dining
if we're in the area.
Alameda, CA
10/11/2008My wish has finally been granted! What makes it even better, it's near my usual lunch spots! Here is the verdict:
-Blueberry: Tart, but it tastes slightly like blueberry syrup
-Pomegranate: Tart, but on a sweeter side, I like this one better than blueberry
-Original: I like how their frozen yogurt holds, not too creamy, and is not watery the instant it hits the cup, not too tart to the point where I have to pucker my lips and make a face after every spoonful. I like this one the best!
The Asian lady behind the counter was so nice, she gave me mini sample cups of all the flavors I wanted to try. There were only 4 that day: Pom, blueberry, original, and chocolate. I was hoping they had mango too (As all the flavors were listed on the front door). =( I chose a small original in the end. I wanted blueberries as my topping, but the closest thing that the employee behind the counter introduced me to were Korean Grapes (never seen this before at the places I've been to). She even let me try one to see if I liked it first. They're almost as big as globe grapes with seeds, but the taste reminded me of the Hello Kitty Japanese Grape Flavored gum or the boxed grape flavor gum you can buy from Asian grocery stores that come with 4 mini balls and instantly lose flavor with a few chews. Mmmm, I'm thinking...This is amazing, I'm tasting the artificial flavoring in Japanese candy in real fruit/organic (I hope!) form. They're sweet, so I chose that to even out my tart yogurt. Thanks to the current Grand Opening special for a small original yogurt without toppings it's only 99 cents, my total came to $1...something close to $2 with an addition of a topping. I'm thinking..wow, that's cheap! The portion of the yogurt was a bit stingy with a hole in the middle and she gave me about 7 grapes, but it was sufficient for the price I paid for it. Better hurry up and get yo 99 cent fro-yo before it goes away!
P.S. They have stamp cards and gelato too! Next stop, gelato!

10/11/2008Wow I can't believe Nick got such "poor " service at the Watch Hospital! I've gone there for years and never had anything but excellent service. Often you "get as good as you give." I try to be friendly and courteous to anyone I ask for help or service and usually get the same in return. Maybe Nick needs to consider that in the future. For anyone contemplating taking your watch to the Watch Hospital for the first time, go for it! I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Businesses don't stay in service for 30+ years without having satisfied customers.

10/11/2008A truly wonderful place with a lovingly chosen, and ever changing, collection of books. A perfect addition to the neighborhood if you're catching a movie or having dinner. If you're not sure what you're in the mood for, I highly recommend talking to the proprietor - he has a way of picking something out that suits everyone's tastes exactly. The prices are extremely low - many books go for $3. This place is a treasure.

10/11/2008This building holds various galleries, including:
Marx & Zavattero
Rena Bransten

George Krevsky

I just realized that these galleries sound like magician names.
These, like the 49 Geary Galleries, are all free. Great artwork ranging from American to contemporary to international.

10/11/2008Hey, a wine bar you say? In Lake Merritt? Oh my, things are changing in a good way, but I am not ready to throw caution to the wind by saying GREAT quite yet.
The service was good, the wine list was fair, the pricing was good... I have a feeling this venue will blossom for me if I give it a little more time. So, I will come back.

10/11/2008I'm laying down just enjoying what could be mistaken for post-coital bliss, writhing in bed with my tummy feeling nice and full, greased up with some tasty tacos washed down with a coke.
Fuck diet coke, btw, might as well enjoy the full flavor of life.
I have been here before and it's always good, but it's pure heaven after I get off work at 3am and it's the only place that's open - where I'd actually want to eat.
I only wish I bought a couple extra tacos to take home.

10/11/2008Thought the food was good. Pricing is high for what you get. Ambiance is good for kids. Like the space. Good service on the water refills etc..
Why when servers take your order, come back to the table and ask who got what? I think they should keep track of who ordered which dish and not disrupt the table conversation. It also gets tricky when you have several people at the table and two people may have ordered "like items". Its up to the guest to remember who ordered what. (This idea holds true for many restaurants, it was particularly annoying here.)
San Francisco, CA
10/11/2008This was a surprise. In a great sense. Who knew this lushly painted oasis existed in the middle of Richmond? And on Geary! Truly shocking.
The colors envelop you in jewel tones, and the lighting gives off a dark, sexy vibe. I honestly could just come in here to breathe in the ambience. We didn't get a booth, but those looked cozy.
I got a big kick out of reading their menus. Everything was described sparseley, just highlighting key ingredients, which really put the focus on what flavors to expect. Even the cocktail menu was given this treatment. And when the server told us all the ingredients were hand-mixed with no premade infusions, we had to try them. Sampled the lavender gin, and meyer lemon vodka concoctions. Both were potent and seductive. And I know by saying that, I sound like an idiot, but they really did. So you can sit here and mock me or go try them yourself. After which, you'll be using the same adjectives. Haha, sucker.
Onward with the menu. The four of us stayed light on the appetizers and ordered just the spreads, This turned out to be seared flatbreads with three dipping choices - smoked pepper and almond, yogurt and dill, or the traditional roasted eggplant. I liked them all, but in an attempt to be discerning, I'll pick a favorite...mmm, sure, the pepper. That'll do.
My main course was the most amazing blend of carrot, rutabaga, some kind of crispy stuff, a tangy tomato base, a perfectly poached egg perched right on top, and the fluffiest couscous I've had in ages. I gleefully mixed the whole mess together, and it tasted even better. I think it maybe had olives too, whatever, it only accentuated the overall delciiousness. (On a sidenote, lamb shank, chicken, and beef with cauliflower were consumed by others at the table. Everyone was making the appropriate yummy food noises.)
Dessert could have been the highlight, and mostly it was. The yogurt mousse was lovely, especially when eaten with the honeycomb and figs. And the warm hazelnut madeleines were a great complement to the goat cheese sorbet and cinnamon ice cream. Only grouse was the diced peaches and winter squash on the plate, which were underripe and almost too savory tasting to be on a dessert. Never mind, this was one hell of a meal. A repeat visit is definitely on the cards.

10/11/2008Someone needs to GET RID OF THE OLD WOMAN WHO SERVES THE CUSTOMERS HERE. Every time shes served me and my friends it was HORRIBLE. You have to practically wave youre hands up in the air to get her attention otherwise youre invisble. Its like she dotn even enjoy workin here. Or she doesnt give a damn about tips.
IM SORRY, but each visit with her on the shift is just BAD. Everytime i ordered a bee-bopper to go, id go home w/out checking like the moron i was and come to find out it wasnt correct. I mean, she WROTE IT DOWN RIGHT???
SO, one day i got the usual, shes on shift, (oh yay) and i order to go. This time i check my shit right in front of her and she looks a bit perturbed. But she always does, so whats the diff?
MY ORDER WAS WRONG.And she put her hand out to correct it before i even had the chance to say anything. Its like she knew what i was gonna say. So if she expected it, im guessing she damn well knew she didnt add a "P" to the order. PLAIN.
ANYWAYS, I love the food here. when its done right. lol. Cheesesticks are too greasy but i have no complaints about any other item on the menu. Id give this place a negative 1 if i could, but the other workers there, and the good food as well, im givin it an even and fair 3. Why let one rotten employee ruin it for everyone else.
The bee-bopper is still my number 1 item and that waitress is still my number 1 problem...avoid her at all costs...shes the only old one there...
Fremont, CA
10/11/2008Only restaurant i couldnt give a bad review to. Theres little to nothing i can bitch about here. lol. I love this place. Used to be a frequent customer over a decade ago before they moved to a new building. Every wednseday, and if youre reading this you know damn well why
They still run that special. Although the price went up twice within a 3 month period, im still fine with that. Because the food is very much edible. Just not enough pepperoni or ham and pineapple.
Ive also had their hamburgers and fries. Which werent too bad, the sourdough bread wasnt a great addition to beef but hey, its still good food. Their mozzarella cheesesticks are really good as well.
Better than dominoes, more affordable than round tables "come out yo pockets" prices, and SHITS ON LITTLE CAESARS.

10/11/2008We came here often, me and my lady. It got to the point where the waiters and waitresses knew us well. lol.
Then one day we didnt get our biscuits. DONT FUCK WITH MA BISCUITS.
So i asked what was up, its been literally about 9-10 minutes and we have yet to see anything. They told us "policies have changed, we cant serve you biscuits until you order the food".
APPARENTLY theyve had people spoil it for the rest of us by comin in JUST for the biscuits and cutting out before ordering time.
I felt insulted considering those fucks knew us by name at that point. And obviously were about to spend our money there. BUT,"policy is policy".
So we dealt. Ordered our meal, and the biscuits came. But LMAO @ the new, smaller size of the biscuits these days.
Not sayin its a bad place. I love their chicken strips, and i always order the 3 shrimp deal. im sititn here at 345am in fremont and starving my ass off posting this. I gotta go...to RED LOBSTER B*TCH
